"Since transit systems don’t make money, the Midlands buses need dedicated public funding to survive. RTA officials want voters in Richland and Lexington counties to approve a half-cent sales tax increase to fund the bus system long term. The tax would generate about $33 million a year in Richland County and $17 million a year in Lexington County. Only about $4 million would be needed to run the buses.
I thought this was interesting.……apparently a one-half cent sales tax will raise $50 million in Richland and Lexington counties per year and the RTA only needs $4 million to operate the system……What’s wrong with this picture ? Surely we won't support a $50 million sales tax increase to fund the $4 million bus system! Surely we can find other funding! Mayor Bob...what am I missing ?
