With the race coming down to the wire and the post that are now appearing regarding Brazelle and recommending us to check out his site, I thought it might be a good idea to go ahead and do some comparing of "platforms".
You see, I have a difficult time wanting to vote for someone who has a platform based on the premise of "I just want to be the Sheriff and if theres something wrong, I'll figure it out when I get there". That just doesn't do it for me people. Just like I do of wanting to be re-elected because Metts is the current Sheriff and he has a record to beat.
I do find it very important for a Candidate to have a reason to want to be Sheriff. I also have a difficult time with the fact that Brazelle entered this race last minute because it dawned on him that he might want to be Sheriff.
Harrison and Metts have both been campaigning longer. For that matter, as disturbing as this is; Metts premise of being the longest standing Sheriff at least adds more validity to wanting to be Sheriff than "I just want to be Sheriff".
Here is a website that I recommend you check out if you would like to see a candidate with a real platform who addressed ALL aspects of what has happened, is currently happening and what the future of LCSD is. www.harrison4sheriff2004.com
Harrison has a good platform and he has a proven service record, hands on within our community, works with our youth in a not for profit way to enhance their desire to be "good citizens". I've seen his program in action and it works for these kids. It's made a huge impact. He has actively been pursuing his candidacy for Sheriff and not because he is disgruntled (despite the few who posted here).
These are some of the more important aspects I found to be positive and vote worthy on Harrisons website. Then I did a comparison of Metts and Brazelle. Listed below are the findings:
 --Harrison has identified the "pain" within the Sheriffs Department and is willing to rebuild the bridge and repair the damage that has been done.
:?: (Show up to his debates and open Q&A sessions in the community and you'll find out how).
:prayer: Metts has pushed the problems under the carpet and has for years. His men and women continue to suffer because they are not addressed. We have disgruntled Deputies, Shortage of Deputies, Threatened job security, and several other outstanding concerns and issues that need immediate attention.
 Brazelle doesn't identify with any problems, because he just realized he wanted to be Sheriff and wants to wait and see what he sees when he is in office.
 Harrison has identified that we need more Deputies on our streets. He has pointed out that we have not really increased our Deputies in quite some time and addressed the fact that we are a growing community that requires more trained deputies on the road and less administrative support within the Sheriffs Department.
:?: (Show up to his debates and open Q&A sessions in the community and you'll find out how).
:prayer: Metts has two secretaries -- James has one and there are a lot of "payroll dollars" being wasted within Administration at the Sheriffs Department. Harrison is willing to reduce the fluff and put more Deputies on the streets to protect us and patrol our neighborhoods.
 Brazelle - Well, he wants to be Sheriff. But still has not identified any of the issues within the department or the need for more deputies on the streets.
 Harrison has identified that the budget has increased 60% in the last 5 years. As a tax paying citizen what have we received for our tax dollars that benefited us? Our Sheriffs Department men/women deputies have NOT benefited from it, we have NOT received more patrolman, more security or more programs to benefit our community. Harrison is willing to reduce the budget and put more patrolmans on the road, add more programs for our community and have deputies become more citizen friendly and offer the citizens more educational and community awareness programs.
:?: (Show up to his debates and open Q&A sessions in the community and you'll find out how). :!:
 Brazelle I hate to sound redundant but I have nothing else to go on. He wants to be Sheriff and if there is a problem he'll check into it once in office.. Just vote. Not good enough for me! Sorry...
 Metts has increased our budget which assisted in the increasing of our County taxes. You can see the indiscrepancies within the published/public information. Accounts froth at this type of misappropriation and blanks in the budget. He has not increased our patrolman, offered his deputies more training, latest technology or equipment throughout. I have a problem with so much of an increase and so little to show for it.
Last but not least there is the mud slinging, threats and all this other perverbial crap that the Deputies, Voters etc.. have been put through this election year because Metts doesn't know how to take Healthy Competition. Heres a quick over view of what some issues are:
- Jobs are being threatened (this is an election people). These Deputies
are supposed to be doing a job, not having to worry about their boss
keeping his job. That's METTS problem to deal with. Leave our Deputies
ALONE and just let them work and do the job they were hired for.
- Money is being extorted from our deputies to support his campaign.
If they want to contribute they will. Don't strong arm someone into doing
something just because their opinion is different than yours. Thats old
school ground bullying. Grow up!
- There have been legitimate post on here that were actually taken to the
Sheriffs Department (i.e, the little girl) and there was no "Specialized
Childs Advocate" that Metts stated they had extended to the child and
the Detective blundered the whole case. Now we have another statistic
and abused child left behind in our community because or our Sheriffs
Dept adn the Sheriff not training properly on how to handle things.
- We have concerned citizens who have done their duties and contacted
the Sheriffs Departments with names, addresses of possible theives
from breakins and nothing was done until months later.
- We have poor response times on calls from citizens requesting help.
- We have a large budget but no real benefits within our community. WHY?
- We have poor morale in our Sheriffs Department
- We have Deputies saying and doing things that are not becoming of
someone who took the oath. You know who you are! and Shame
on you for making good Deputies have to be clouded by your own
stupidity. It's coming to an end quick and you will be found out
eventually when there is no clouds hanging around from retrobution.
Those are the facts voters. It boils down to this. We can continue with the perception of "if it ain't broke why fix it"?. But, in Reality, if it weren't broke, we wouldn't be chatting about all the problems now would we?
Secondly, now that we know what the problems are and that they have been running like Cancer in our Sheriffs Department and spreading to our Community are we willing to
1) Keep the Sheriff because of his long standing record and no real fixing of the problemm, but who has been instrumental in inflicting the pain? Just because of history and "good ole boy politics"?
2) Bring in someone who just now decided to toss in his hat who has no real concept of what is happening in our Sheriffs Department, no understanding of the problems or pain that has taken place over the years and no real solutions on fixing any of it because he hasn't identified anything?
3) Bring in someone like Harrison who has identified all the "pain" and is willing to address it and fix it. Who has indentified the "growth" we need in our Sheriffs Department and among our Deputies.
Who has indentified the excessive "waste" in our Sheriffs Department Budget and is willing to reduce the budget and utilize it more efficiently than in past years.
Who has been a police officer, been in supervision, knows the beat and knows what working beside his fellow officers is like and is able and willing to continue to do that type of service for them and our Community.
Who has identified and addressed that we need more "educational programs" for our kids and citizens within the community and will bring it to us instead of us having to search it out from them.
Who has identified that our current police officiers feel their job security is threatened and has assured them and the citizens that there will be no retrobution from the campaign. Unlike his opponent Metts who has consistently threatened these men and women. As if they don't already have enough to worry about with their jobs. Lets add that stress to it!
I haven't given you anything here that hasn't already been seen, dully noted and addressed on this forum and by Harrison himself. I just thought it was time we put some perspective into this as we get closer to our June 8th vote.
I believe Harrison is the right Candidate for this Job. I have spoken to several people and obtained over 400 votes just from people I know, work with and volunteer with in the community. They are all looking for a change. Have seen the needs and are willing to put their faith in a new candidate. One with fresh ideas and who is driven to do this job and do it proactively.
I hope the majority of you will join me in getting the word out about Harrison. Despite the poor ethics of his opponents and stealing of this mans campaign signs, I think the word is what will get these votes moreso than a sign. I encourage you to continue supporting someone who has proven through this campaigning who wants this job and is willing to do the job and take on the task at hand. THAT WOULD BE
