I agree that it is EMS Week and it is a time to honor EMS professionals. I think sometimes people take EMS for granted until they need us. I think we should get more recognition for the wonderful job that EMS does and the lives that we touch. Fire/Police and the Government are the only services you ever see on the news getting awards or getting acknowledged for anything. It stinks that we are the "step children" of america! :???:
EMS love! ;-)

O'burg EMS should not be recognized for anything....unless we are praising services for providing poor patient care and having a management team that will always leave something to be desired.

what's wrong with OCEMS? I'm starting there part-time there soon and I'm looking forward to meeting some new people and seeing how it's done somewhere else...until then

Folks,
I first want to start off by saying that I am in no way asking for a fight by posting this message. I further want to state my credentials ahead of time so you have an idea of where I came from. I am a 18 year paramedic, nationally registered, former EMS training officer for a large EMS system, former State EMS office Official and I run my own business. I left EMS to make my own money and be my own boss because I beleive that I am the best boss I ever have had. I have been reading your posts about "recognition" for EMS day. I have been watching EMS grow for a long time. We have been adding new skills, procedures, and gaining a small amount of independence as practitioners. With that said, the one thing that I haven't seen is respect. As the old saying go's "respect is earned". Until we as providers of lifesaving skills take control of our destiny, and make some noise and get out of the controlling hands of nurses, doctors and hospitals, we will never be respected. Additionally, we need to start acting the part. What I mean by that is the sheer nature of EMS is very similar all over the country. Backstabbing, sleeping with our partners, breaking up families, immoral behavior that finds its way into the public forum. Many medical directors opinions of prehospital care providers are that they are "underachievers". Now, before you start getting your heart rate up, remember what I said at the beginning of this posting. I am one of those people too. A so called underachiever. We are thought of as somewhat disposible and replaceable. I believe this stems from our education process and from training and the type of people that are attracted to EMS. Lets face it, where else can you go work that only requires less than a year of training to pay upwards of 35K per year? Theres are allot of people out there that have BS and MS degrees making that much money or less. So our very nature tends to attracted the kind of people that were working at the quick stop store one day and 9 months later are defibrillating someone on the street. We have to raise our own standards and right away if we are going to be recognized. If you truly want EMS day to pay tribute to you, you have to structure the day to highlight you, your skills and your equipment and make it a day to educate people; not serve them. I am qualified to say this because every year I did an EMS expo on EMS day that involved over 25 different agencies under one roof. I brought in 3 helicopters, did finger prints, and had food for everyone. My last year I had over 3,000 people show up, many with their kids, and guess what? Not one blood pressure was taken! So, my ending to this is, take a look at yourself, what your professional appearance is, how you conduct yourself, your education, and motivation. If we all would start to improve the public's opinion of EMS we wouldn't have to sit around on EMS day and check overweight people's blood sugar level! Good luck to you all!!

This world has so much more to worry about. I'm not in EMS but I know and respect many who do this sometimes thankless job. I know of a young man that is putting his life on the line for us, by putting on his US. ARMY uniform in a few weeks to leaves us. He will also leave behind a loving wife and 4 beautiful kids that need him. This is a special person to me as well; this person has been my husbands partner. Most people say they won't or can't work with Jack... But truth be told I think most of you who know him would run a call in a heart beat with him... But Over there we will worry............ WE WANT YOU BACK... Chris Porter,You'er family is in this for the long fight, hang tough. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
As for Lexington EMS, Gold Cross, Mobile Care...Lexington is the best place to be. And to the wonderful author above, you are one very special person. Thank you for your input...

Things have gotten so much better at OCEMS since G.C. was given the boot. A special thanks is in order to the people responsible for making this happen. People are finally happy !!!!!!!!!
ORANGEBURG COUNTY EMS WILL ALWAYS BE THE ARMPIT OF EMSTheir lack of proffessionalism is only exceeded by the waist sizes of the worthless lying Fat asses that are employed there, By the way since o'l G.C. Got that boot did you all place in the paramedic competition this year??? How was the Golf tournament ??????? Or did Miss. BIOTCH make you all some fireman certificates to hand out while you do blood pressure checks. **** YOU ALL !

G> Do you really think it is a good idea for YOU to talk about anyone lying? And from your post, along with many personal experiences, I have finally figured you out.
You think that you are wanted everywhere you go. You actually tell yourself each day that everything will fall apart without you. You have yourself so far up on a pedastal and truly believe that you are above the rest. Haven't you figured out that your attitude makes you a far worse person than most people want to believe you are. Do something about it. Cheer up !!!! or something. Try not being a dirt-bag for one entire day from start to finish. You might even start to like yourself a little.
Oh and think about this for a second. No Tournament this year but you're gone.......Sounds good to me !!!
I take it back, nobody will ever figure you out
And if Ornageburg is such the ARMPIT of EMS, then why did you seek employment there soon after your departure from Lex.Co.
Orangeburg EMS has come a long way and seems to be steadily improving. New trucks, new monitors, new hydraulic stretchers, new stairchairs. How many other services do you know of that get all of this in on years time. We are proud to work for Orangeburg and be assured...that we are not sad that you arent here to enjoy it with us. PEACE
