Richland School District One is not being honest with the taxpayers. RD1 is going before county council later this afternoon (June 8th) to request $478,435.00 more than council approved for the district's budget. However, the district recently pocketed a $1 million windfall from the sale of property at St. Andrews Road and Broad River Road which should more than cover the district's stated additional needs. They don’t need the additional money.

The financial records of a public school system should be accessible by anybody under the Freedom of Information Act. You would have to be persistent to get the real information. Most likely you would need to get a group and hire attorneys to force them to disclose what they are legally obligated to disclose upon request. But if you do, the things you are upset about now will seem like nothing.
