Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies say they have arrested an 11-year-old boy who robbed a girl for food.

The incident took place Feb. 25 outside a convenience store at 3315 Broad River Road.

Officers say at about 6:30 p.m., an 11-year-old girl was walking from the store when the 11-year-old boy approached her. According to officers, the boy demanded the food that the girl had, and threatened her with a knife.

After he got the woman to give him the items, he then left from the scene.

Investigators say the victim was familiar with the suspect because they live in the same neighborhood.

A family court judge released the suspect to his parents and he is currently on house arrest.

Sorry... not sure if the kid was hungry and just wanted food (couldn't tell from this article), but sounds like another wannabe thug to me. And the fact they released the kid to his parents tells me that he obviously wasn't starving at home. He robbed a woman at knife-point and yet they release him. Doubt very seriously he learned any lesson here... except that you can do bad things and get away with it.

Seriously... the world has become a scary place when you have 11 year olds packing knives and robbing folks.

I bet he stole chips and Little Debbies.

Thug wannabe. remove him from society. Maybe the parents as well.

Yeah, you have to wonder what kind of upbringing this child has to go this direction in general. I'm not saying that bad kids always have bad children because sometimes the parents just lose control, but the majority of the time it does have a lot to do with how a child is raised. Parents need to put the fear of God back into children... I say forget spoiling the child... bring back the "rod".

FWIW, you have to be at least 12 to go to DJJ, although for very serious crimes even younger kids can be held elsewhere.

Holding up someone at knifepoint... in my opinion... is a very serious crime.
