View Full Version : Down Grade Of Irmo

I am absolutely amazed at how quickly the town of Irmo is going down hill. It seems like ever since the low income housing was put behind harbison boulevard that everything has made a severe down grade. Irmo high is no where near the school it once was, crime rates are well above what they used to. I know several parents in the Irmo area who now refuse to send their kids to Harbison West Elementary. Even Crossroads 6th grade school has gotten to the point where parents are now moving to a new school zone to avoid their children having to go there. Is there anything that can be done before the problem continues to get worse? The more time that passes it seems the more good people are forced to move just to send their kids to a decent school or feel safe in the Irmo area. If anyone has any answers to this problem, please share!!

That's why I moved out of Irmo.
The mayor failed us all.

Welcome to the new world of democratics. Now you are seeing how the downfall of society in Irmo. What do you think your going to do with them. No one wants to face the facts and step-up to the challenge. The mayor still thinks it’s a one horse town and there is no problem. All I know is that someone needs to step up and start taking charge before all of the tax payers move out. Ever been to Palmetto point… gotta love those liberals. Friarsgates next on the list. Those houses are selling like hotcakes and taxpayers aren’t the ones buying them. Wake-up Irmo Before its too late!!!!! :???:

Can someone please tell me where these "bad" areas of Irmo are so I can stay away from them? I do a lot of night-time photography and don't need any of those punks trying to tear my head off to get my camera.

The "affordable housing" surge is coming to Chapin, too. People seem to be pretty proactive here, though, when it comes to quality of life, crime, liberal thinking, etc.

Anytime time there is an influx of non-property tax-paying citizens, you can expect for the rest of us to make up the difference. Maybe I should sell my home and move to a rental in Friarsgate. I'll never really own my home anyway, as long as I am paying taxes with the rest of the hard working folks.

Ive heard rumors about a new low income housing area being built off of the Peak exit in Irmo. Again, this is just a rumor, but from what I've heard it is one of those apartment deals where half is low income housing. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I've seen from the interstate a large area that has been cleared for what looks like either apartments or a business campus but I haven't heard any details on what exactly it is. If it is in fact low income housing, we can kiss Ballentine Elementary School goodbye.

I've got the real answer to the Irmo question...its town hall and the admin. I personally know some officers in Irmo some of whom worked with Columbia PD in the Eau Claire area prior. From what I've been told the officers have seen a negative trend developing and brought it to the attention of the admin. The admin wont take the officers concerns to council and still other times admin. and council ( namely Mayor Gibbons ) refuse to acknowledge there is any problems.
The Irmo officers are committed to doing their best in stopping anything "before" it starts and they've got the fastest responce time of anyone around. What can they do though when they dont have the backing of the higher ups, the council and mayor ?
Complaints need to be taken to the town council but no one does but a few.

In reply: Then you dont know him too well. He was trainined up in the Harbison area then they moved him to the North Region ( Eau Clair area ) for almost two years. All you have to do is ask CPD officers Wise, Price, Huntley, Pegram, Sheard, Mahoney. Is that enough or do I need to give more names ?
They worked with him out there.

I don't know where all this rot got started but for your information, I worked CPD with Brian and he DID work Eau Claire (why that makes any difference, I don't fully understand but he did) and while he also drove the paddy wagon (just like we all did at one time or another) he didn't "just" drive the wagon. It is obvious that the ignoramus who says that is not work never had to drive one around for eight or twelve hours at a time. As I remember, he was a very conscientious and productive officer then, as now, and reliable. Yes, I am proud to call him a friend of mine and if he told me something, I could take it to the bank. Nothing has changed there, either! I don't know who the guy doing the sniping and innuendo is but my guess is that it is either someone he busted or someone who is jealous of his experience and abilities in his chosen line of endeavor. Hopefully he will get over it and get a life, something that Brian has already done for himself.
That's about all I wanted to say. Good Day, folks.

ahhh...JEALOUS....too funny!
Keep up the good work B! It was good to have you on the force a CPD and sorry we lost ya. We got into many chases and serious stuff out there and you can back me on a call anytime. I'm near retirement now but glad to see there are those like you coming along behind us old timers. Those officers that worked with you a CPD and the ones that have moved on to Lex. and Richland Cnty know what you did , what an asset you were and are. Irmo is lucky to have ya and I understand you received quite a few awards...no doubt for good work.

It's not that bad yet but if things keep going the way they are there will be some sooner or later.
