TRENTON, N.J. — The last time Monique Hosendove spoke to her brother, Hassan Shakur, she begged him to turn himself in to South Carolina police.
On Thursday, he and his wife were shot and killed by Jersey City, N.J., police in a pre-dawn shootout that left five officers wounded.
“Did they go in there with the intention of killing him? Did it have to go that far? Did a negotiator try to go in there?” she asked. “I just want the truth.”

The Truth:
Thursday’s shootout erupted during a stakeout. Police said Shakur was hiding a pump-action shotgun under a robe when police approached him in the street at about 5:15 a.m. He began firing.
Shakur, 32, and Amanda Anderson, 22, whom Hosendove said was married to her brother, ran into the apartment where they were staying. More than an hour later, SWAT officers fought their way in and were met by shotgun blasts before they could fire a shot, authorities said.
The Truth, if you play the game, you're going to have to pay sometime.

Michael Camacho, who had been in critical condition since he was shot in the neck during Thursday's shootout, was upgraded Sunday to serious but guarded condition. He remains at Jersey City Medical Center along with fellow officer Michael DiNardo, who was shot in the left side of the face and remains in critical condition.
Shakur, 32, and Amanda Anderson, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene Thursday.
They were wanted in connection with a June 18 armed robbery in Jersey City, where a man was shot in the stomach with the same shotgun, and also were suspected of a similar robbery in South Carolina.
Saved a lot of money to the taxpayers in lieu of court and prison costs.

A 22-year-old South Carolina man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for shooting a state trooper.
Authorities say Glover shot at Cpl. Quincy Brown eight times after being pulled over for speeding in Orangeburg in May 2008.
