I have read all of the previous threads from January to April bashing the MCSD and the leaders and I truthfully can't believe the PETTINESS the people of this county. I do understand that this website is to vent and to share our thoughts however THIS IS ELECTED POSITION. Instead of all of this TALK you people need to get out and do something about his. Carolinagirl, you need to gather your evidence of everything you have said and take it to the appropriate persons and shut your mouth.

The deputies are not getting paid to get bashed on this site. They have to provide for their families and do not get paid to be insubordinate at will. Not all of us have the luxury to be out of work like you obviously do since choose the "ethical route verses a job". I will not be here to respond to anything you have to say so you can call me what you like or say what you like but don't expect a response as I will not lower myself to any further standards you have. Get off your butt and do something about this not just run your mouth.

Oh, one other thing, if you work in the ER at the hospital as you slipped up and said in one of your threads then you know you eat when you can and you might consider these guys do the same thing and when you see them could be the first time they have stopped in hours also. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT JUDGE. YOU NEED TO MAYBE FUNNEL A LITTLE MORE OF YOUR PAYCHECK TO THE MCSD TO GET ALL YOU WANT OUT OF THEM. ;-)

I see that this person agrees, you have to pay for protection from your own pocket in order to receive it. It doesnt matter that our tax monies go to this! I personally think they should protect all, not a select group. Maybe YOU need to SHUT it! Tell Mark we here at friendsofsc.com say hello....Im sure you speak to him on a regular basis.

Exactly what do you mean by ethical route? Are you saying that you know who I am and what I do and that I should not have an opinion? Why so upset with me? Others on this very site, the very thread you're referring to, have commented on their dislikes regarding the MCSD...actually, I have not commented in quite some time. Maybe those comments I have posted offend you or the MCSD...if so, too bad. I think you actually miss me and want me to continue to voice my opinion. Thanks April....

CarolinaGirl, you seem to be really up set with the sheriff. I could tell you something that you really make you mad along other tax paying citizens of Marion county. The other day while on duty, we had to go to HWY 917 & Nichols HWY for a two car MVA. While we were there directing traffic, a white SUV pulled up and turned on their blue lights. Two women got out, one in uniform the other in business type cloths. As they came up to me I asked them if they also got the call about the wreck. What she told me next made me mad. She said that Mr. Robert (a gentleman that works at Mullins High School Athletic Dept.) had called the school to let them know that he'd been in an accident. Their boss (Mark Richardson) told them to go check on him. Come to find out, Robert is a close friend of the sheriff. The two women are school resource officers. They stayed there for an hour until the highway patrol was done and then gave Robert a ride back. My question is this, will all Marion county tax payers get this kind of treatment if they get into an accident outside the county limits?

So scmullins, you're saying that you're ok with your tax going doing this. If this person is right there might more things like this going on. I for one do not approve of my county tax dollars being spent like this. Did you by chance get a look at the buget report in the Star Interprise? Sad numbers.

So the 1st Amendment is petty??????? Me wanting the sheriff to actually show up for work one day is not petty, sir! People are in the right to bash the ELECTED leaders when they forget WHO ELECTED THEM!!! All we get lately are scare tactics like the gang initiation crap but no sheriff in sight!!! Where is the leadership at mcsd?????

Marion County is fortunate to have Sheriff Mark Richardson. He has and will continue to be the best Sheriff this County has ever had. A sheriff can not be expected to sit in an office day in and day out. All of his work is not done in an office. He has a good staff that tries to do a good job. If they have at some time offended you, then you may need to look at what you are doing. The deputies are all underpaid. I would never put my life on the line of duty for what they are paid. If they use their cars for personal errands I see nothing wrong with it. Everyone who drives company cars does the same thing. Why condemn them? Could some of the criticism come from those who are not law abiding citizens? It would be my guess that if he were running tomorrow, he would be re-elected. Did you vote for him? I did. Thank you Sheriff for a job well done.

I did not vote for him. He proved the first time that he didn't have what it takes. He was re-elected by a small margin. Others who use company cars, that is a private company, not one that is paid for by tax payers. You're missing the point. Its the abuse of the freedom that the deputies have. Can't wait for the next election! Time for a new sheriff. And not sure how long you've been here but I've been around a long time....and he is by far NOT the best sheriff this county has seen. Far from it. He is an elected official who is out for self and his friends. Perphaps you might want to investigate some of the cases that have been lost in the courts under his supervision....yes, I have and I know the numbers. Part of the strategic plan in the next election. Numbers dont lie!

Your vote is proof enough that you would not suppport him. He can not control how things come out in court. This comes from incompetent people being on jury duty. It would be my guess that not even half the people living in the county are qualified to serve on jury duty, with half of those not willing to do it. When they arrest someone, it is up to a jury to decide quilt. It has happened over and over again, they make arrest and the jury lets them go. Some of this could be the non law abiding citizens who does not support Sheriff Richardson and will not support the next Sheriff that they cannot control. I support him due to the fact that I am a law abiding citizen. Maybe if you would check around you would see that this is the case with many.

Mark is a great sheriff. The man has landed some impressive grants for his department. I heard of a new name that might run this time but Mark is head and hills above any opponent

Or did the grants just happen to land at the right time? I understand that there has been some shifting of positions at MCSD....maybe this will move the dept into a positive direction.

You people are crazy! Improper use of county property and funds is by no means acceptable. No one, and I mean no one should be using county property for their own personnel use. It is disrespectful to the tax payers that are flipping the bill. I've lived here my whole life and it's a disgrace the way the younger generations abuses their positions. It's no wonder why this county can't prosper and are stuck in the stone age. The so called great sheriff has used his position and county property for his own personnel use many of times. I will say that he is better than the last one but not by much. And for you to say that he is the best we’ve had, you need to lay off the drugs (law abiding citizen). The deputies are under paid. But how can you expect to pay them more when most of them are abusing the budget? I’ll say good job when they have a better control on the local gang activity that “your great sheriff” says we don’t have. Open your eyes to the truth. Reality is hard for some to face.

This is a really dumb and false statement. You really need to do a little more research into the law enforcement field and you will find that it is common for sheriff's deputies to have take home cars. This is in no means abuse to the tax payers money. I would gladly give more of my tax dollars to the sheriff's department and other local law enforcement agencies so that our officers could have better equipment to protect themselves and the citizens of Marion county.

First I would like to point out that when you try to use certain phrases but spell them incorrectly ("flipping the bill" should be "Footing the bill") you lose all credibility. Also, if you are going to make slanderous statements you should have some proof to back them up. I would personally like to see proof of the Sheriff using his position and county property for personal errands. Do you not think our police officers are doing their best to combat gangs? If the Sheriff said that we don't have a gang problem then why did they recently form a county wide gang unit? Your are not very well informed and make statements that have no factual backing. If you choose to respond, please make sure it is worthy of me reading.

Deputy resigns after arrest
by Tonya Brown
Deputy Brian Woodberry was arrested Sunday night.

A Marion County Sheriff's Deputy has resigned after being arrested on charges of criminal domestic violence.

Marion County Sheriff Mark Richardson says Deputy Brian Woodberry was arrested Sunday night.

Richardson says Woodberry got into an argument with his wife and threw a computer monitor, hitting her leg.

Woodberry is out of jail on $25,000 bond.

Richardson plans to call in the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate.
