There are some crimes that just blow my mind. This is one of them. This poor girl had to make the decision to do this, or risk the same thing happening to her. I hope counseling will be able to help her move on as best she can from this nightmare.

What a lovely family. Mommy gives birth to first of three illegitimate kids at 16, then daddy (who probably doesn't work, but, really, is it fair for us to judge) stabs Mommy 12 years later and have the oldest kid help cut her up. Charming. And I'm sure we the people paid for their welfare, food, and housing. Not that this helps Mommy, who not only has been disarmed, but lost her head, but don't you feel better about helping them?

I just saw on CNN that this guy is being charged with murder. Surely he will be convicted and hopefully sent away forever.
I know too many of these stories, both from my years of teaching in juvenile prison and from an attorney friend who does some public defense work in Sumter. Such people often are absolutely certain that they did nothing wrong because somebody "made them mad" and that no jury would hold it against them. There was one too gory to describe here that was pretty much a sure thing for the death penalty if the guy went to trial but he insisted up unto the morning when the trial was to start that he had done nothing wrong when he killed his girlfriend, and mother of his child, because she "made him mad". On the morning that the trial was to start he changed his plea to guilty and got life without parole instead of the needle.
True psychopaths are a lot more common than they used to be. It is to the point of being a public health issue. It knows no cultural or ethnic bounds. Fortunately not so many actually commit murder. A great many turn their hatred and lack of empathy into political identities. I don't know what we could do about it.
May this guy never walk free again.

EUCLID, Ohio (AP) - A northeast Ohio man has pleaded not guilty to trying to put his infant son in a hot oven.
The man, 30-year-old Sammy Hunter Jr. of Euclid, was arraigned Wednesday in Cleveland and pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other charges. Bond was continued at $500,000, the court appointed an attorney and a pretrial hearing was scheduled for Monday.
The prosecutor says Hunter was high on drugs on April 28 and twice turned on the oven, then tried to place his 28-day-old son inside. Authorities say he was stopped both times by his live-in girlfriend, who is the child's mother.
Hunter also is charged with assaulting firefighters called to the house the same day over a natural gas smell.
He was already awaiting trial on earlier charges of aggravated robbery and bribery.

Day Care Owner Threw Infant To Floor
AIKEN, S.C. -- A Graniteville woman who operated an in-home day care is headed to prison after admitting she fractured the skull of an infant in her care by striking and throwing the baby to the floor.
Erica Paradise, 21, was sentenced to 10 years, suspended to six years and four years probation. Paradise pleaded guilty Monday to child abuse causing great bodily injury.
Authorities say Paradise admitted she hit the baby last November because the child had been crying. Paradise threw the child onto her hardwood floor, then onto a bed.
Another woman saw the baby having a seizure on the bed and the infant was taken to a hospital where the abuse was discovered.
The baby has not shown any sign of permanent injuries.

DILLON — Police are investigating a suspicious death after a teenage suspect in the case led them to a body thought to be that of a missing Dillon woman.
The body of a woman was discovered Tuesday on a rural dirt road, just outside of Little Rock on S.C. 9, said Dillon County Capt. Cliff Arnette.
Three suspects, including a Dillon High School student, are in custody in connection with the case.

Wow... so sad. A bunch of stupid, stupid thuggish kids take a life in order to steal a car. How sad is it that these pieces of trash were never taught the meaning and value of life. I doubt they'll get the death penalty (considering their ages... though I think they should), but hopefully they'll never get to taste freedom again. Pathetic garbage.

It is my hope, and a lot of people in town feel the same way, that these guys spend the rest of their days in prison. Of course, that is probably asking way too much out of the system, but hopefully they'll get more than just a few years. She was in her own home, minding her business, and these THINGS just decided to take her life. They didn't care that she is a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother...they saw someone they could overpower and that's all they cared about. I hope they get the book thrown at them. Life plus 20 in solitary would be great for them, I think. They don't even deserve that much leniency.

well, right now a lot of people are wishing they could have 5 minutes with these guys. after that, i'm sure they'd appreciate whatever sentence they got. this lady lived about 3 doors down from an elementary school too. I think that should factor in to their punishment as well. b/c you never know when a kid walking to school could have gotten caught up in their little get-away....and if these guys could kill a 75 year old woman, they probably wouldn't think twice about killing a little kid.

See, to me, a lifetime spent in prison is too easy. Free room and board... free medical care... it's too easy. I believe that I would feel the same way. Just the thought of spending any time in prison much less life, is awful. I think I'd prefer the latter as well, but most often or as it seems to me, criminals prefer to extend their lives even if it means life in prison. Maybe for the reasons JDid mentioned below.

A 2-year-old who was severely beaten over the weekend has died, and officials say charges against her alleged assailant could be upgraded.
Dannie Floyd Nichols, 22, was arrested Sunday and charged with cruelty to a child after a relative took the injured girl to the Hopkins Fire Department, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Nichols was babysitting the girl while her mother was at work, the department said.
The girl died Monday afternoon.

Williams says Troopers did not find any evidence that the car was in an accident. The only explanation, according to Williams, is that the car went into the river at a nearby boat landing.
"She left the location," said Williams. "She walked away from the vehicle, maybe three-fourths of a mile away, of course, where she had contacted someone to call law enforcement to report that she had been involved in an accident."

http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/08/17/south.carolina.children.deaths/index.html?hpt=T1&iref=BN1
(CNN) -- South Carolina authorities will bring murder charges against a woman who admitted she suffocated two of her children, who were found in a car submerged in a river Monday, Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams said in a news conference Tuesday.
Shaquan Duley, 29, told police she smothered her toddler sons at the Trumps Inn motel in Orangeburg by placing her hands over their mouths, Williams said. He added that the children were dead before she put them in their car seats and drove them to the river while "trying to find a way to discard the bodies."
Williams said Duley is not a hardened criminal, but an angry, upset, unemployed woman who felt she had no way to support her kids.
"She just wanted to get rid of the children, as sad as it may be," Williams said.
Investigators had previously identified "some issues that needed to be unraveled" in the case, he said earlier, but as Duley was interviewed throughout the evening, "we discovered some other issues that we had great concern (about)."
Williams told CBS he thought from the outset "we had a deceptive mother" and that investigators shared his "gut feeling" that something wasn't right. Williams said Monday the case had "a stench of foul play."
Duley currently faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident. Divers found the bodies of her two sons, ages 1 and 2, in her Chrysler sedan in the Edisto River near a boat landing after state troopers responded to a report of a car accident early Monday. The bodies were sent to the county coroner for autopsies.
Williams said Monday he couldn't confirm reports that the key was still in the car's ignition, but he said the car apparently was in neutral.
He added Duley didn't appear wet, saying, "She didn't have any evidence that she had been submerged in the water."
The car went off the boat ramp that is about 10 yards off the road's shoulder and sits at a 90-degree angle to the road.
Duley told authorities she was driving down the road and lost control of the vehicle where the boat ramp was, Williams told HLN's Nancy Grace. However, he added, "There's no evidence that she ran off the road at any time."
Duley walked nearly a mile before calling for help, telling authorities she flagged down a motorist to borrow a cell phone to summon help, Williams said. Police are trying to track down that individual.
<!--startclickprintexclude--><SCRIPT type=text/javascript> var currExpandable = "expand112"; if(typeof CNN.expandableMap === 'object') { CNN.expandableMap.push(currExpandable); } var currExpandableHeight = 360; </SCRIPT>
But "she could have gone to a closer residence" to call authorities, Williams told CBS.
Ramona Milhouse told CNN she lives next to the boat landing, and her house and a neighbor's house are clearly visible from the road. She said she was at home around the time Duley told authorities she lost control of her car.
"I don't know why the young lady would walk that far when we are here, that's easy to see, and we have phones so we could have called someone for her," Milhouse said.
In addition, she said, the road near the landing is a busy one. "It's not a quiet country road," she said. "There's a lot of people driving up and down, all parts of the day and night."
She said she did not see the car go into the water, but heard sirens as authorities responded.
"When I heard what happened, I just couldn't go to sleep at all, thinking about those two little boys," she said.
It wasn't immediately known whether Duley had retained an attorney.
The boys' father, who doesn't live at the same residence as the children, has been interviewed by investigators, Williams said. The sheriff said he didn't know the father's whereabouts at the time of the incident.
Duley has a third child, a 5-year-old daughter, who was at the home of her maternal grandmother, where Duley lived with her children, he said.
The incident has similarities to a 1994 case, also in South Carolina. The bodies of Michael Daniel Smith, 3, and 14-month-old Alexander Tyler Smith were found in their mother's car, still strapped into their car seats, in John D. Long Lake in Union, South Carolina. Their mother, Susan Smith, was convicted on two counts of murder, but jurors opted to spare her the death penalty and she was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison.
The case inflamed racial tensions in Union, because Susan Smith claimed at first she had been carjacked by an African-American man. She stuck to that story for nine days, issuing tearful pleas for her sons' return on national media outlets, before confessing to authorities. Prosecutors alleged she killed her children after being rejected by a man she was dating who did not want children.

There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for what Andrea Yates did to her children... it was horrible and unnecessary... it didn't have to happen. She's in a mental facility... which is exactly where she needs to be. She's not on the streets and I doubt... minimum security or not... she'll ever be back on the streets again. Do a little more research than just Wikipedia on Andrea Yates... you might be surprised at what you find.
This was a very, very sick woman. She had mental issues that she sought help for many times through her family and her church. She never got the real help she needed though... her husband just encouraged her to have more children. After each child she suffered terrible postpartum depression and expressed her anguish to her husband. Did he get her help? Did he take her seriously? No... day after day he left her alone with those children even after she told him the horrible thoughts she was having and even that she didn't trust herself. She suffered mental breakdowns and attempted suicide twice and was told that she should not have more children as it would further her mental & emotional issues. What happened... they had another child. Her doctor instructed the family (her husband) that Andrea Yates should have round the clock supervision. What did her husband do? He left her at home alone with her children while he went to work. What happened after that? She ended up drowning her 5 children in a bathtub in their home. Truly, that man knew what she was capable of. He had been warned. He should be locked away forever right along with her. But where is he at now? Oh, he's remarried and has more kids. Yeah, he moved on rather quickly.
Does this Shaquan Duley fall into the same category as Andrea Yates? Well, I don't believe for one minute that she does. This woman was dealing with recent issues and just snapped (like Susan Smith). You haven't heard this woman's family, close friends or church members or doctors come forward (yet) talking about how she's been emotionally unstable and under treatment for years. No... this woman is nothing like Andrea Yates. Granted... I have no doubt that when it comes time to go to court you are going to hear that she is. And that's sad.
Make no mistake... postpartum depression is very real and many women suffer from it. You need to blame defense attorneys for coming up with this defense in the first place for the women who don't suffer from it.

Evelyn Harbin spent the last moments of her 82 years on this earth wrestling with a 34-year-old drug addict on her living room floor until he eventually broke her neck, officials said Thursday.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Sammy Lynch, who lives across the street from Harbin, broke into her house in the early morning hours of Sept. 3, looking for something to steal so he could sell it, or even trade it, for drugs. He took a TV, some checkbooks and a handicapped parking placard, among other things.

We’ve got a crackhead who was so desperate to go out and steal something so that he could get some more drugs that he took this lady’s life.”
Investigators arrested Lynch on Thursday morning and charged him with murder. He is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He does not yet have an attorney, sheriff’s spokeswoman Monique Mack said.
After the killing, Lott said Lynch left the house but then returned a few hours later to steal more things. Lott said Lynch then mutilated Harbin’s body in an attempt to cover up the crime.
“He had absolutely no remorse,” Lott said.
It was Lynch’s extensive arrest record, which dates to 1993 and includes multiple arrests for drugs and burglary, that first attracted investigators’ attention, Lott said. During an initial interview Saturday, Lott said Lynch seemed unconcerned with Harbin’s death.
Later, while investigators were canvassing the area, they found Harbin’s 2000 burgundy Chevrolet Blazer parked by an abandoned building behind Lynch’s house. Inside were several of Harbin’s belongings, as well as a few of Lynch’s belongings, Lott said. Investigators also discovered Lynch had used Harbin’s cell phone to call an online dating service, where he used his personal identification number to access the service.
“He has confessed to the crime,” Lott said during a news conference Thursday. “We recovered a lot of physical evidence. We’re very confident it is going to match up with him.”
Harbin was a retired Bi-Lo employee and a longtime member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Eastover, where she made the toppers for the windows in the church sanctuary and had volunteered to bake several items for the church’s yard sale scheduled for this Saturday, according to the Rev. Jim Tuggle, the church’s pastor.
“She was a sweet person, a loving person,” he said.
Lynch grew up in the area and had several addresses in recent years. He has at least one child, a daughter, who is the granddaughter of Gerald Howell.
“He’s the kind of guy where, face to face he’s kind of personable,” Howell said of the man his daughter once had a relationship with. “But he was trouble.”

Man Who Pimped Stepdaughter Sentenced
ATLANTA -- A Fulton County judge sentenced a 49-year-old man to life in prison for molesting his stepdaughter and prostituting her at parties at his home.
James Howard Johnson was sentenced late Monday by Superior Court Judge Craig Schwall.
Prosecutors said Johnson started sexually abusing his stepdaughter in 2000 when she was 7. They said when the girl was in her teens, Johnson forced her to drink alcohol, take drugs and then have sex with men for money at "sex parties" at his house.
The girl ran away in 2007 and told an aunt what happened, leading to Johnson's arrest.
Johnson was convicted of 17 charges, including rape, aggravated child molestation and pimping and pandering.

CHICAGO, IL (WIS) - If you missed Oprah's show Thursday afternoon, she featured a story that hits close to home. The family of Shaquan Duley, the Orangeburg mother accused of killing her two young sons, spoke to Oprah. The tragedy even brought the queen of talk to tears.

I didn't see the show... actually I can't even believe that these people were on Oprah... but I did hear that the lawyer has already stated that he will be using the insanity defense for this piece of s***.

I would imagine that is correct as well. If it wasn't correct then I would imagine any father worth a d@mn would be screaming for the death penalty... or at least a shot to go on Oprah. I've not a heard a peep from them. I was just glad to hear that - at least - she was denied bond. The judge apparently felt that she might be a danger to her older daughter. Personally, I believe that the judge should have denied bond because she's a worthless piece of crap that will hopefully never see the outside of a jail cell again, but hey... I guess even if he did feel that way he probably couldn't express that line of thought.

3 Children Found Shot Dead in Texas Apartment
http://www.aolnews.com/crime/article/3-children-found-shot-dead-in-texas-apartment/19639743?icid=main%7Cmain%7Cdl1%7Csec3_lnk3%7C1715 82
HOUSTON (Sept. 19) -- Three children were found shot dead in their beds Sunday at a suburban Houston apartment building, and their father was charged with their murders after surviving an apparent suicide attempt, authorities said.
Muhammed Goher, 47, was charged with three counts of capital murder in the Sunday morning shootings, said Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Jamie Wagner.
Goher was in stable condition Sunday afternoon at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, where he was being treated for what investigators say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, Wagner said. A sheriff's office statement said he was expected to survive.
Goher's two daughters, ages 14 and 7, and a 12-year-old son were killed in the shootings, which were reported around 9:45 a.m. The apartment is attached to a convenience store where Goher worked, about three miles south of Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Goher is divorced from the children's mother, Norma Goher, but had court-ordered visitation rights, according to the statement.
Those rights were to be the subject of a Sept. 27 court hearing in Houston. However, Goher received the children Friday afternoon and was to have returned them to their mother Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
Muhommad Riaz, Goher's co-worker at a convenience store near his apartment building, told the Chronicle that he had spoken with Goher Saturday. He found him to be upset over the upcoming court date and the fear of losing his visitation rights, Riaz said.
Goher said "everyone was lying" about him having a violent temper, Riaz told the newspaper.
The report I heard said that the kids appeared to have been asleep when they were shot... they didn't even know what was coming. Which, I guess, is a good thing. How anyone can do this is just beyond me. Even though I think that dying by his own hand through a self-inflicted gun shot wound would have been too good for this waste of oxygen... I do hate that money has to be wasted in order to take him to court (which I'm sure an insanity defense will be used). I hope they put this POS under the jail.

You said it before I could... this shouldn't even be a question of whether he will or not. It should be a question of how soon we can schedule it.
