She's the mystery lady who ran for congress and never told the voters who she is, her background, her experience in her community, her qualifications, her work or business experience. She needs to be more open with the voters about herself, why she is running for public office, her knowledge and understanding of the issues and what she would do differently or she'll get less votes than she did in her landslide loss to Clyburn. She got some anti Clyburn and party line votes then and she will get some anti Gerald votes but she'll never be anything more than a token candidate unless she opens up about herself and shows the voters she has the knowledge and experience and ability to be a leader. Even those on the bubble with Gerald are not ready to turn their city over to some mystery candidate. Voters want more than hints and generalities about who someone is that proposes to be their leader, they want the details about who she really is and what is her agenda for the city where she wants to lead? Who are you Nancy?

From Star/Enterprise.....maybe this will be a good opportunity to ask your questions....I agree, we need to know more about her. Thanks!

Sorry, but I was referring to the March 10th council meeting. My understanding is that some of the candidates will be available. Not sure if its just those who are currently on the council who are seeking re-election or the challengers as well.
City of Marion mayoral candidate Nancy Harrelson and candidate for Marion City Council District 3 Betsy Atkinson.
Is that it? These are they only positions being challanged?

Vote Betsy Atkinson for City Council Seat 3!!!
Why?? All I've wanted to know is who is running and for what seat. I would also like to know what each candidate has to offer me as a resident of Marion. I'm not just going to go out and vote for someone that I don't know anything about.
I was told this afternoon that Bobby Gerald had a heart attack and is at Carolina's Hospital. If you hate him or not you don't want to see something like this. Please pray for a quick and healthy recovery for Mr. Gerald.
Heard today that Rodney Berry has shown interest as a write in for mayor. Has anyone talked to him or heard the same?

I was told this as well. He ran for mayor twice. Both times were close. Something to consider.

It's official. Rodney Berry will be a write in for mayor. It is being advertised on HTCH8 and there are even fliers out.

Great! I was told that he wouldnt be able to advertise but this is great news.
I heard the same thing about not being able to advertise. I wonder why that is? It doesn't make sense to me. If someone wants to be considered they should be able to let it be known. Right??
Less than a week away and it seems to me that it is pretty obvious who will win their respectful election.

Candidate Rodney Berry likely will become Marion’s next mayor after contender Nancy Harrelson conceded from the race Tuesday night before all the votes could be counted.
Berry was leading by 619 votes when Harrleson conceded, though numbers from the three remaining precincts had yet to be tallied.
“We can congratulate Rodney ... and wish him the best and know he’ll give us good service,” Harrelson said.
When asked if she was lodging a complaint about the election process amidst talk about the buying of votes, Harrelson said, “We’ll see within 48 hours.”
According to Marion County Election Commission Chairman Robert Harrelson, candidates have 48 hours after the polls close, or until 7 p.m. Thursday, to lodge a protest about the election.
At 8:30 a.m. Friday, the commission will hold a hearing to determine the validity of all ballots challenged and validate the elections.
If needed, a runoff election will be held April 28.
Berry, Marion County’s Economic Development director and two-time candidate for Marion mayor, was a write-in candidate.
At the time of his death in March, Mayor Bobby Gerald was seeking his seventh term. He served as mayor for 24 years. Harrelson was the only other declared candidate for the position of mayor.
Berry said Gerald’s death changed things in Marion, and he felt that although he had lost to Gerald twice before — in 2005 by 160 votes and in 2001 by 60 votes — he should declare himself a write-in candidate.
Berry said he was approached by citizens who knew of his past interest in serving and that he and his wife, Melia, decided he should run for the city’s top seat. A Marion businessman, Berry originally is from Dillon.
He said county officials told him there would be no conflict between his elected position as a city leader and his job with the county.
In other election news, Betsy Bryant Atkinson was leading incumbent Ronald Davis for Marion City Council’s District 3 seat. With four of six precincts reporting, Atkinson had 139 votes to Davis’ 120.
Seats held by Poiette McGill-Bromell and Michael Baker, districts 5 and 6, respectively, are uncontested.
I think Mr. Berry will do a wonderful job!
Of the 4,692 registered voters in the City of Marion, election commission officials reported, 2,023 voted.
With numbers like these no one can expect change. Like I said before, it's obvious who was going to win. Congratulations to both Rodney and Betsy. I know they will do a good job. Hopefully now things will go in the right direction.

Like you said before????? You NEVER said WHO would win!!! Those numbers are actually quite high almost 50%, and most elections would be thrilled to have that high percentage! So no one can expect change, but you know they will be a good job???? PLEASE MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!

With most elections, these numbers are about normal.
Low voter turn-out has been a concern for years.

One question: According to a previous post the county said there would be no conflict with his job as county development and his city job as mayor. Does this mean he will hold both jobs? Just wondering.

I do not believe the mayoral job really pays that much. I would see no conflict in him having the two positions. The man has got to feed his family.
