Well, I think I have seen it all now! I thought that the Lexington County Sheriffs Department "World Wide Website" was supposed to be informative to our lucky Lexington County Citizens. Instead, I click on the first tab and after the first paragraph, just lost breakfast.
This is a classic example of the "I'm the fricken Sheriff and it's all about me" mentality that goes on here. For once I would like to click on something regarding our Sheriffs Department and have to read Ole Jimmies bio and the fact that if us good people will re-elect him then he will "Be the longest standing Sheriff in SC"... Uggh..
After an opener like this first paragraph, you would think that you were about to read what a great job these hardworking deputies have been doing to serve and protect our county. Most of them do work very hard to serve and protect us! But, rarely receive the recognition they deserve for putting themselves on the line everyday for us. But, nope.. Instead what you get is the following: :prayer: There is also a big photo of Jimmy next to it. I just didn't paste it. This is the first button on the website you go to. A message from the good Sheriff. Lil Timmy wasn't nearly as interesting as his Daddy!!!
We really need to put the focus back on the job our Deputies are doing in the community, not what Metts is doing in college or sitting behind his desk. Our Deputies do the real work. They work the streets, are in our schools and are the faces we see when we need them. We need someone who understands that concept and acknowledges the good job that they do day in and day out. Metts is not that person. Harrison is that person. Just anohter reason to vote for Harrison on June 8th.
I've said it before.. There's no I in TEAM!!! Without the men and women who work for the Sheriff there would be no need for his job. They do the job they are hired for. It's time we have a Sheriff that does the same. It's not Metts people. It's Harrison. I doubt you'll ever see Harrison advertise himself like Metts does. Even in a non-election year. Think hard. How many times have you ever actually seen Metts stand up for his men and women and say "Yes, it was a hard case, but I happen to have the best there is in law enforcement and they did and outstanding job of bringing justice to this case and making our community a safer place". I can tell you. NEVER!!! I have NEVER heard the man commend his men and women for the work they do. It's always been well "I"... Just a something to think on.
As the sheriff of Lexington County, I want to welcome you to the site for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department on the World Wide Web. I hope you will take some time to learn about our agency’s operations and the services that we provide in one of South Carolina’s fastest growing counties.
James R. Metts is the longest standing sheriff in the history of Lexington County. He ranks second in consecutive years of service among the 46 sheriffs in South Carolina. Metts earned his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from The University of South Carolina.
In 1992 Metts was awarded the J. Stannard Baker Award as the Nation's most outstanding practitioner of highway safety. He was the first sheriff in South Carolina to organize a dedicated traffic squad and pioneered the use of in-car cameras for enforcement of drunk driving laws.
Metts is a past president of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association, representing more than 7,000 officers from every branch of the criminal justice system. Twice he was elected South Carolina Sheriff of the Year, and is a past Practitioner of the Year among criminal justice educators in the southeast.
Known as an innovator, Sheriff Metts continues to introduce high-tech procedures to law enforcement by finding better ways to perform traditional tasks.
I don't think any of this makes our Community safer. Gives the men and women who actually do protect our community a warm feeling of gratitude for their dedication and job performance. No, it simply states. "It's all about me".. Metts...
TAKE A STAND... MAKE A DIFFERENCE... VOTE HARRISON FOR SHERIFF JUNE 8th 2004. Put a stop to good ole boy politics and give the LCSD the positive recognition they deserve for doing a good job. Once Metts is gone, the rift raft of the department will leave with him. There Harrison can build a stronger foundation and work ethic among the dedicated individuals who were in their job for the right reasons.
We're 42 days away from making a difference. It's time ALL of us make that stand!
