I LIKE IT!!!!!

I've often wondered why we didn't have something like that. We had cars made specifically as taxis (Checker) for a long long time.

Its a one usage vehicle. Most Police vehicles are multi-purpose, from transporting perps to the Mayors girl friend, etc. Specialized units may have a use for it, but the general patrol units would not, but it is an interesting idea.

Captain Worley

I wouldn't count on this one ever getting built. That being said, I do believe one of the Big 3 could market a purpose built patrol car for LEO only. The big question would be 'de-milling' them.

BTDT
11-12-2008, 11:08 AM
It would make a great Intercepter, prob could only afford a few units.

I really can't see this taking off. The crown vics and other types of vehicles that law enforcement use seems to fit the needs of most agencies quite well. Then, once the vehicle has served it's time on the road, it goes off to auction so some civilian out there can buy it... I'm sure you all have seen the old police cruisers around town. The agency names may have been taking off, but you can't miss the ones that used to be police cruisers. Not to mention... can you all hear it now?... tax payers screaming because law enforcement agencies are spending money unnecessarily on these "special" vehicles instead of purchasing the usual fleet vehicles they've always used.

swampfox
11-12-2008, 11:38 AM
How much does it cost now to purchase a crown vic with all of the special adaptations needed in a patrol car?

BTDT
11-12-2008, 11:39 AM
The Ford Crown Vic, the most popular patrol vehicle ever made is no longer available and neither is the Ford Police Package. Chevy can't keep up in a chase and the Dodge Charger was made for LE duty. This concept is a great idea and I would love to see it go forward, but at what cost.

Captain Worley
11-12-2008, 12:00 PM
Crown Vic is still available for fleet purchase only.

The Crown Vic is still available, but a lot of agency's are going to the Dodge Charger. A friend of mine on the Hwy Patrol said that they are working on replacing most if not all of the Crown's.
Bringing back the Camaro and the Mustang would be nice esp. for interstate use any.

Chevy Impala is used a lot here by police in Batesburg.

11-12-2008, 08:40 PM
Yeah I have noticed that to 378. They are probably good for small towns like that but probably won't work as well on major interstates. Thats just my opinion...

Captain Worley
11-13-2008, 08:57 AM
The only complaint I've heard about the Impalas are the huge turning circle.

They don't have the speed of their Ford and Dodge conterparts.

Captain Worley
11-13-2008, 09:35 AM
They don't have the top end of the Dodge, but I believe they beat the Vic in acceleration and top end.

That Charger is a nice peice of work.

This one would be ideal for squirrel control!!

swampfox

I'm afraid it would take down the trees along with the squirrels. That's one way to look at it.

Seriously, get some cats. I haven't seen a squirrel in my yard in years.

Our outside cat does not do his catly duties in the squirrel department.

Those complaints ONLY come if they disagree with your political views.

Otherwise you could type in the phone book backwards and nobody would care.

Sweet and Evil.
Some friends have 3 of those THINGS.
Well, she has. They don't mess with him anymore.

He said when one of them went after him he grabbed it and threw it in the pool.

Every time I went there they hid, we figured they smelled the dogs.

One afternoon I went over there for a party, I had showered and changed clothes at another place.

Rick and I were sitting pool side with a cold one when one of those critters stalked my leg.
Rick asked "remember what I told ya?"
Yup, one wet cat.

Cliff

What is it with cats?
They are strange to say the least.

They tell me that as a small kid in a play pen (I love that term) the family cat brought me dead mice.

Later (at about 7) I was an invalid. A stray cat adopted me.
My mom would set me out on the porch to do my school work and this stupid cat would bring me mice. What's with the mice thing?

I've had one cat in my life.
A cat was hit by a car in front of my house, she was carrying a kitten.
Being the cruel hard hearted person that I am.
I took the kitten in and bottle fed it.
It was a Manx.

Cool critter.

When I was a child kindergarten was not yet widespread around here. They didn't have it at our school, so I was never in it.

I am surely in it now.

If he wants to file a formal complaint, who should he complain to?
