I think we all need to look at the big picture here. Lets all ask ourselves "What does Marion County have to offer"? Longtime doctors are leaving because of the economic situation here in this county. They have to go else where to support their own families. Yes, Marion county is getting alot of foreigh doctors but at least they are willing to come to this county and try and help us. Hopefully with the addition of the hospitalist group the level of quality healthcare will increase. Thank god for the hospitalist doctors that are here and are willing to help out the sick patients in Marion County!<!-- / message -->

The medical industry in Marion is following the county. Starbuck has the right idea. Hope not, but it may not be too long away before we all have to travel to Florence for Dr.'s care. They will keep an emergency unit here, but I think McLeod will end up with the hospital.

Good doctors feed hospitals and the number of good doctors in Marion County has undergone a big decline in recent years. Add to the mix a less competent administrator who lets a certain unqualified county council member run the hospital and as Flip Wilson liked to say, "what you see is what you get." Just not sure which came first, the doctors leaving or the incompetent admin running them off.

McLeod does have a right of first refusal to purchase Marion County Medical if it is ever sold. MCMC used McLeod's guarantee to get a better rate on bonds to build new hospital and that right of first refusal was part of the deal. The reason McLeod hasn't bought it is because McLeod doesn't want it.

You cannot blame the hospital for what the federal government has already done. Foriegners get better breaks coming in this country when it comes to grants and schools and such. 83 is absolutely right. Some people assume they know everything without ever leaving their tiny little worlds. As a teacher I met a great many, way too many grandparents raising grandchildren, or even great grandchildren, or in one case I'll never forget, great great grandchildren.

That's the problem with "this great nation". Our government treats the outsiders better than its own people. If we would stop worrying about all the other countries and worry about our selves then maybe we can fix things. How can we take care of other countries when we can't even take care of our selves? It is so sad that a community in need has to endure the nasty comments on boards like this....I know from personel experience that the Marion County Medical Center provides excellent care for their patients.* They are working very hard to provide qualified doctors for the community.* Yes, there are new physicians that have recently joined, but what you should realize is that* Dr. Minceys practice is owned and operated by MRHS, Dr. Berry and Askins are deceased and Dr. Carroll left on his own.* But don't forget that other Amercian doctors have joined MRHS over the last several years, Dr. Floyd, Dr. Roberts, Dr. Spohn, Dr. Regec, Dr. Young, just to name a few.* Have you taken to the time to meet the new hospitalist, who by the way speak very good English.* And as for 30 people loosing their jobs, that number is not correct, it was about half.* You need to get your facts straight.* Let me also point out that MRHS is not the only hospital in the Pee Dee or surrounding areas that are downsizing staff, do your research.* It is easy from the outside to find fault, but you should really make sure that you have your facts before commenting.* I am an employee of MRHS and we have a GREAT team of individuals from Admin down, that strive each and everyday to provide quality care to our community.* Sure we are facing tough times, but what state or county in the US is not at this time.** Someone once told me that we should not be to quick to judge a person until you have walked in their shoes, not sure that you could do any better job, but if you think you can go by Human Resources and fill out a job application and make a difference for the better.* P.S.* McLeod is not buying MRHS, so put that one to rest.
