Lets just put down the truth on this site.
Metts favorite saying
" I'm the God D- - - Sheriff of this God D--- county !!" (I spin around and stomp my feet while saying this on occasions)
Metts most notable saying
To the (Lady) Town Manager of Batesburg Leesville after he got mad and red in the face.
" You want a piece of me" at this point I grab my crotch and say "You can have a piece of this"
Metts full time jobs
Restaurant in Batesburg Leesville
Teaching 120 miles away in Charleston.
Lexington county Sheriff
(Wait now, something has got to give here. Too much for 1 person. Charleston is a 2 hour drive to, maybe 1 to 1 1/2 hour teaching and 2 hours back. THANK GOD for the county leased SUV and county gas. THANK GOD for Timmy who is ACTUALLY running the Sheriff's office. shh
don't tell the citizens of Lexington county. What they don't know will not hurt ME, and besides, I control the Sheriff's Dept budget. I can hide this cost.)
Never have I had to run for office, other then 30 years ago. Sure I was untested, no experience, never supervised more then 2 or 3 people at one, but I beat an EXPERIENCED Sheriff. For 30 years you; the citizens and taxpayers had ONLY ME to vote for. You had NO CHOICE. Forget you have a choise this time. You can not survive without me. I am all important. I am the ONLY person on this earth that can lead this county Sheriff Dept ( When I get time off from teaching and from my Restaurant)
I am surrounded by LOYAL deputies. Who drive me to Charleston, without question (that is a long drive you know, even in my county leased SUV). Who give me money for my election (I'm not using my money, anyway they "owe me for their jobs". Make sure that is in a check form and it's for "$100.00"; $25 for each of my last 4 years I have been your Sheriff. Remember you OWE ME. Oh, let us not forget the deputies who are putting up my signs. (Granted it's on county time, driving unmarked county cars, and using county gas, but I control the budget, nobody will ever know) :finga:

How could you forget about jimmy refusing to go to citizen sponsored debates. He wants the citizens to come to his, but he is too good, or too afraid, to come to theirs.
tick tick tick :toimonst: jimmy has left the building

I might be mistaken, but I believe that Sheriff Metts sold his interest in the eatery in Batesburg. I am almost positive of this.

I see you feel Harrison deos not have the qualification since he has no or little supervison skills, yet you defend a man who's only skills of supervision before being the sheriff was a DISPATCHER, in very small department. I see NO OTHER qualification from his ( jimmy's) web site. If he says otherwises, he offered NO PROFF before hand.
tick tick tick. :toimonst: there's goes ole jimmy down the drain.

Ok Wyatt, “I’ll be your Huckleberry”. :prayer: Why choose Harrison? Listed below you will find what I use to qualify my candidate:
To become a Sheriff, an applicant: must not be less than 21 years of age, with weight proportional to height; have vision correctable to 20-20, with normal color vision; have normal hearing in each ear; be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the state of South Carolina; have a current SC driver’s license; be free from physical, emotional, or mental conditions that might adversely affect job performance; have no criminal record (minor traffic violations excluded); not, by reason of conscience or belief, be opposed to using force when appropriate or necessary to fulfill required duties; pass a civil service examination and be certified by the county’s Civil Service Commission; meet all South Carolina Peace Officer Standards and Training Requirements; and pass a rigid background investigation.
Harrison, clearly meets this criteria. Whereas Sheriff Metts does not! Now Wyatt, that’s just the basics.
Sheriffs have the authority to appoint a Chief Deputy, who’s job is to assists with the office’s duties and acts as chief coordinator. Harrison, has the ability to appoint a caliber Chief Deputy. However, Mett’s appointed Tim James, once again, showing a qualification that he clearly does not have. James was a weighty anchor in this already sinking ship.
Other Functions and Sub-functions that I consider very important:
Law Enforcement encompasses all objectives that pertain to preventing, controlling, and reducing crime; enforcing criminal law and apprehending criminals; monitoring activities of the courts and related agencies having criminal jurisdiction; and ensuring public safety. Harrison once again very qualified to complete this task. They are mandated to engage in the following sub-functions:
-- Maintaining Public Order and Security: Harrison, very capable
-- Enforcing Local Legislation: Harrison, very capable
-- Controlling traffic: Harrison, been there done that
-- Communicating and Reporting Criminal Activity (CJIC), (CIC), (NLETS)
and (NCIC) reporting: Harrison, very capable-- Investigating Crime: Harrison, been there done that
-- Making arrests: Again, Harrison proven statistic
-- Detaining and Booking Offenders: Harrison completed and capable
-- Providing Assistance to the Courts: Harrison completed and capable
-- Incarcerating Offenders: Harrison, once again knowledgeable and
capable of completing this requirment.
-- Administering Internal Operations: Harrison was a supervisor, is a
business owner and knows how to operate efficiently and effectively.
-- Managing the agency: (this would include internal office management activities, corresponding and communicating, meeting, documenting policy and procedures, reporting, litigating, legislating (drafting, lobbying, tracking) publicizing and providing information, managing records, and managing information systems technology. Harrison, has strong management skills, is very computer knowledgeable, has a proven track record of reporting, documenting, administering policy and procedures throughout his career and maintaining records. Again, qualified!
--Managing Finances: Include budgeting (preparing and reviewing a budget package, purchasing (requisition and purchasing supplies and equipment, receipting and invoicing for goods, and authorizing payment for products received); accounting for expenditure, encumbrance, disbursement, and reconciliation of funds within the agency’s budget through a uniform system of accounting and reporting; authorizing travel; contracting with companies or individuals; bidding for products and services; assisting in the audit process; investing; and issuing bonds. Well, well Wyatt.. Here we have a larger issue. You see Sheriff Mett’s has done a very poor job of the above! Harrison is willing to REDUCE the budget that is already OVER INFLATED by Metts. Jail House my foot. Are you his accountant? Harrison is willing to cut out the FLUFF! That would mean that he is willing to scale down the areas that are over staffed therefore reducing the salary overage and making the staff that was hired to do the jobs internally do actually suck it up and do their jobs. Did I happen to mention that’s also why you have ACCOUNTANTS /CPA’s. Sometimes consulting them will empower you not to screw up so much!!! Again, if you REALLY had spoken with Harrison. You would know what his ideas are on cutting this budget down and in turn helping out the citizens of Lexington County by not contributing to raising our taxes like Mett’s has done. Harrison – QUALIFIED
--Managing Human Resources: Activities include recruiting and hiring ELIGIBLE individuals to fill positions within the agency; providing compensation to employees; supervising employees by evaluating performance, promoting, granting leave, disciplining, training and providing continuing education for employees. Once again, Harrison is just as qualified as ole Jimmy to handle this job. Also, have you ever heard of an HR Person? They are pretty knowledgeable about this area too. Sometimes Wyatt, you have to hire people to facilitate over certain areas.
It’s why we retain Attorneys when we need them or pay a doctor for treatment and diagnosis. Believe it or not, we’re not ALL Super Humans able to complete every job under the son sole handedly. However, it does take someone knowledgable about people, who take the time to look into their employment history, etc.. to hire the caliber individuals you need in order to put together a strong and dedicated team. Harrison has this capability.
--Managing properties, facilities, and resources:  No, this doesn’t mean managing your own businesses on company time. Nor does it mean using company leased vehicles for personal career enhancing, political objective, nudity bar trips etc.. Did I mention that although Harrison doesn’t own a restaurant, invest in a T&A bar or use leased vehicles to drive to other career paying jobs? Harrison can adequately manage a business, charity and hold down a full-time job and did I mention he’s also running for Sheriff of Lexington County. Oops, I left out that he volunteers to help out kids in our community too, shows up to meetings, walks door to door and meets the public, etc… Geeze, what an ass this candidate is. NOT!!
The next time you ask for answers to a question Wyatt, be certain you can stomach the answers! Now, Pony up, or should I say MULE up Wyatt?
What’s your candidacy qualifications and requirement checks and balance system? Your turn! Please, try to give me a little "MEAT"!
:axe:

Wyatt, why do you believe Metts did not go to these debates with Harrison, that he, that would be Jimmy Metts, came up with. Jimmy came up with the location, the time, and invited the citizens, yet Metts did not show. Why? If this is your man Wyatt?
Your arguments are weak Wyatt. Lets get on to June the 8th 2004 and let the best man win. It is my belief that will be Harrison. Go ahead and stick to yours, thank god for the right to vote.

I have not defended Metts anywhere on this board. I am not a Metts supporter. I will probably vote for Metts however, since there have never been any straight answers about Harrison. It appears, that even on this board he only has about 3 supporters. Same ones all the time. Same stale answers all the time. Same fluff. Just like Harrisons campaign. You are absolutly correct, June can not get here fast enough. Then Harrison can change parties and run against Metts in the real election, and we will all hear this same drivel again for 4 months. And the end up will be the same again.

Wyatt, it does not make a difference who wins, the loser can not run again under a different party. I see one person believed jimmy and his boys about Harrison changing his party. If you believe that Wyatt, let me tell you some FACTS. Ole jimmy has tried, NUMEROUS times to change his job and leave Timmy James in charge. He can do this after serving at least 2 yrs; that's leaving someone he wants in charge of the sheriff's position. jimmy wanted the US Marshall's job, Strom stopped that (Strom HATED ole jimmy, well known FACT). He wanted the Governer's job; the citizens put a stop to that and his nonsense again well known FACT. Can you sing that little jingle jimmy?. He wanted the Director of Department of Public Safety position, he even told people who he was taking with him, but Stanford stopped that, again well known FACT. When there was thought that Stewerd (SLED Chief) would leave, again jimmy was counting on that positionm, again Stanford stopped that, once again a well known FACT. For someone who wants to be the sheriff and serve the people of Lexington county, ole jimmy sure seems to go somewhere else, or be something else (teaching in Charleston - one more time a well known FACT) Ole jimmy is not VERY popular with the Republician party, which he knows. He has made a fool of them and himself. Out of Lexington County, he is viewed as an fool. The only person who could change parties would be jimmy, maybe the democrats might like him, because the upper people in the Republician party don't.
tick tick tick :toimonst: jimmy has just left the building folks.

One more thing Wyatt, how can you say you can not get straight answers from Harrison. Harrison was there for the debates ole jimmy set up and did not come. What straight answers to ANY question did you get from ole jimmy. The person blowing everyone off is ole jimmy. Refuse to come to his own debates. Refuse to come to debates from the voters. Refuse to come to a gang seminar again from the voters. Wyatt you make no sense what so ever. I am starting to believe Metts's Fan. World about you being one of jimmy's good ole boys. Sorry dude, just speaking my opinion.
tick tick tick :toimonst: jimmy has left the building, but then he never came in.

Guest 101, what you said about whoever loses cannot switch parties and run again is incorrect. this in fact happened in Saluda in the last election for Sheriff. Dudley Rushton lost in the dem. primary to Jsaon Booth and later ran in the general election as an independant, yet still lost there. So it is possible to lose the primary and then run as an independent. Just letting you know.

So I guess WILL be switching parties. I BET he will if he looses. Let's hope he'll spend HIS money and not his deputies money when he does switch.
tick tick tick. :toimonst: jimmy has left the building folks. Oh no he didn't, he was never here.

Oh me oh my, I forgot to say ole jimmy WILL be changing parties. Anyone want to make a bet, IF he loses jimmy will change parties?
tick tick tick. :snakeman: ole jimmy is teaching in Charleston.

I was on duty last night and had a conversation with a Deputy about things going on in the Department and I was shocked to learn about the degree of stress surrounding the working men and women of the Department. What shocked me most was that the stress is caused by the Sheriff, himself. Seems like if you are a Resident Deputy your days are numbered if Metts loses the Primary. Metts has these Deputies worried because he has told them if he loses their area they don't have a job! These Deputies are being forced to hand out fliers and other Metts’ political material, ON and off duty. They are even using a County truck to put up his signs! I am amazed at the number of abuses he affords himself at the cost of the Employees and Taxpayers! I can only hope that someone will step up and tell people about what goes on, though I am almost sure it will not happen because he has used his position to blackmail his employees into doing his will by holding their jobs over their heads!
He has their jobs, their hard earned money and now their free time as well.
