Although a tremendously difficult task, A coalition for the betterment of Marion County could be formed. If enough liked-minded people could unite. I think the most effective process would be for this coalition to recruit candidates to run. In an earlier post Bigfish made the comment that in order for Marion County to truly change many political positions will have to change. This statement is true. What do you say people? Have you had enough? Is it possible that a change of course for our Great County could be initiated right here?

I'm in . I acknowledge it will be a huge undertaking and there will be much disagreement even with "like-minded people'" but I have had enough. Sounds like grassroots in the works. When is the first meeting?

Oh well Govman...a coalition of 2. I guess a call for action scares people away. Change is only good when others are doing it. Send me a private message if you're ready to introduce yourself and initiate a meeting. I know many people outside of this board who would have interest in action.

I ain't scared...am fed up though and much more educated than my post reveal. Gamecock trash talking just brings the redneck out in me. Where's the dotted line Govman?

Make that a coalition of three! This is what I was speaking of earlier in another thread. I almost thought I was a lone voice in the wilderness! :-)

I will bet the same question, yet on a national level, was raised in taverns of the thirteen American Colonies of Great Britain before, during, and after the American Revolution. Historically, changes have always occured when individuals can see the need of a different course of action to benefit the community. I believe the time has come.

"We must hang together, or we will all hang separately." (approximate quote)

dear Mr. Swampfox, I believe the quote you gave is attributed as follows:

If we do not hang together, we shall surely hang separately.
Thomas Paine (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/t/thomaspain137311.html)

here are more quotes attributed to Mr. Paine:

Society in every state is a blessing, but government, even in its best stage, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.
Thomas Paine (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/t/thomaspain143164.html)

That government is best which governs least.
Thomas Paine (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/t/thomaspain124849.html)

I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.
Thomas Paine (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/t/thomaspain163018.html)

and my favorite:

If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.
Thomas Paine (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/t/thomaspain159470.html)

yes, these are merely copy and paste quotes but i have always enjoyed reading quotes by famous and yes, infamous peoples as they give their ideas on both their ideals and their monstrosities alike...thank you;-)

Not much for the political arena myself, but man-o-man BigFish eats this stuff for breakfast !!!! Heck- I'm just gett'in my feet wet by replying to several threads on this web page. I have grown up in Marion county and I hate the thought of having to eventually move in order to earn an adequate income. Marion County has a lot to offer, but I do agree that we must come up with new innovative ways to improve commerce- I believe that God has given us each a talent- and when we are not bold enough to tackle what He places before us- due to lack of faith--things that were meant to be, don't ever exist. I guess what I am trying to say is- good luck with the "movement" just do not forget what prompted it- be determined not to get wrapped up with personnal gain and personnal agendas- keep your hearts real- and focus on the problems at hand- remember- every action has a consequence- If I may add one more thought- Don't leave God out of the equation- anything not based on Him- Will Fail !! Let Him be your strength and guide.

Oh- BigFish- "may the force be with you" :cheer:

My preference out of the bunch:

Thanks, Medic. I was trying to remember the quote from high school history class.

The rest of those quotes are excellent as well. Thomas Paine was a lot more important among the founders than he gets credit for.

Personal gains and personal agendas are dangerous toys when placed in the wrong hands. You always have to be mindful of those who want to better their life and/or situation at the expense of others. Unfortunately, good people are fooled by selfish and evil people disguised in "God's armor" everyday. I love the following quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

"All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen." Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hey Born2teach, You need to grow up and stop being such a smart ass. Come back to the real world and not your "make believe" world you live in.

A good point was raised on the "Marion County Economic Developer" thread. Should we all apply for the position of Director of Economic Development? I would be interested to see how that scenario would play out.

It seems the county has been actively looking for someone to fill the position for some time now, per The Florence Morning News.
