I am not trying to be negative but I wouldn't hold my breath.
I've heard over and over the past year that ' papers were to be signed and announcements made in a month', but have not seen anything in the news. Also, the property in that area that was the biggest part on 'the map' of the proposed site (old International Paper) is still not changed hands that I know of.

If it were our leaders would be standing in line shouting it to the heavens.Fact is they have not delivered anything to this county in years.Anything we have received has fell in our laps. When there is a hint of an incoming industry or opportunity they prematurely leak it to the community. By nature i am an optimistic soul but I grow very weary of our county leaders. The only one worth their salt(as it pertains to our counties' well being) is Kent.

Inland Port??? More of a poltical smokescreen to keep the taxpayers fooled than likely to happen. No econ development directer on the job everyday in Marion County??? No one person that goes to work every day with the job to recruit industries and jobs(even an Inland Port) to Marion County??? The position is vacant, it has been vacant for over 6 mos(some would argue it's been vacant of a effective director for years) and the County Council and their new Administrator are at fault. What are they thinkin??? Even if the Inland Port does have a chance, are they putting all OUR eggs in this one basket??? What should be THE top priority in Marion county, THE most important position in Marion County and THE most important item in the county budget is of no importance to them. What fools we are to allow it and what fools they are making of Marion County in the eyes of our neighbors who are booming with growth.

See below or read today's State paper. Looks like while Marion County's leadership was sitting on their butts for the past year pretending to search for a new economic development director, Orangeburg County's leadership and economic development director were spending the past year taking away Marion County's inland port, their jobs, their tax base and their future. Looks like if the good people of Marion County want an inland port, they will have to move down I-95 to Orangeburg.
Details emerge for 6,000-job S.C. project
Dubai-based firm’s distribution center could also pump $600 million into Orangeburg County

ORANGEBURG — A Dubai-based firm unveiled plans here Wednesday for a 1,300-acre logistics and distribution hub that eventually could bring 6,000 jobs and up to $600 million to economically challenged Orangeburg County.
Economic Zones World, formerly Jafza America Inc., announced details of three initial phases of construction beginning at the end of next year that will total 4 million square feet of warehousing, truck parks, light manufacturing and mixed-use buildings.
The initial $340 million investment is expected to create 3,065 direct jobs by 2020 with another 2,200 support jobs off site. Ultimately the company could invest up to $600 million in the hub, wrapping up construction in 2032.

Isn't that just wonderful. Can't you just feel the love from county council? Thank you county council. Don't you dare ask us for anymore money since you let that go.

OUCH!!! As a resident of this county, I hate that we let this opportunity slip past us.
As the article states, Orangeburg County is "economically challenged."
I guess Marion County would fit into the category of being "economically depraved."
