I personally have not always lived in Marion County. I chose on my own to move back to Marion County after living in Lexington County for a while. I missed it b/c this is where all my family and friends were. And now "friends" is a term i don't use often. What is up with the people in Marion County?

6868, be a little more specific. Our claim to fame is our people. Have you been treated unfairly?

Unfairly is an understatement..Have you ever been in the grocery store/Wal Mart and see someone you knew and they say we were just talking about you and then you ask well what were u saying and then they change subject real fast. That is what I mean. You never know who to trust..

Probably too personal for me to respond. I was asking more in the line of if an entity had wronged you or your dissatisfaction of a governing body. I am, however ,sorry for your bad experiences. I think overall we have great people just lazy leaders.

But really, the "who you know" concept applies virtually everywhere. I will admit that there are some "family clans" in this area and these "family clans" may turn up their nose at the people that are "not good enough" in their uppity opinion.
But hell, those type of people provide about 92% of my entertainment value here. LOL! Who better to laugh at than them?

But Marion County (which I have always liked) is in the same boat as other non-coastal lowcountry counties that are seeing agriculture, especially tobacco, petering out and not much manufacturing to take up the slack. In other words the tax base goes to heck, followed by basic government services and eventually people turn on each other when resources dwindle just as they have done for thousands of years.

There is a way out which involves getting serious about education (which, no offense meant, is in the pits) and then marketing the next generation, WITH better educations, to prospective higher-tech business.

The example for the world is the Republic of Ireland. They went from being Europe's poorest nation to the one with the highest quality of life in 15-20 years. A turnaround like that in such a short time is about as good as it gets.

So yeah, if the country holds together Marion can definitely help itself. Has a lot going for it already (one of the most scenic little historical towns). It won't happen overnight but it can happen surprisingly quick IF PEOPLE QUIT TURNING ON EACH OTHER like a bunch of feral animals.

I'm crazy about you, Marion.

Don't get me wrong guys..if I didn't like Marion County I wouldn't have moved back after being gone for so long. I just think there is way to much who you know in this county..BigFish you have a point that it is everywhere but hey here lately around here it is being shown way to much...I'm hoping some of the politicans do what they say they are going to do, to show that it isn't just who you know

In another thread I mentioned getting a "coalition of the willing" (pun intended) to collectively run for local office. I am in, but I need others to stand up. Anyone?
