Interesting tidbit: The former air marshalls are saying that one percent of domestic flights have armed marshalls on board, and the head of the Tranportation Safety Administration said that he could not give the correct figure because it's a secret, but that the one percent figure was off by "an order of magnitude".

An order of magnitude is a scientific term that actually means "by a factor of ten" in either direction. This would mean that the correct figure, according to the TSA head, would not be 1% but would be either 10% or 0.1% (one in a thousand).

Was he just figuring that the members of congress did not know what it meant, or did he not know himself?

But as for plane safety, sure I have concerns, and I'll admit that I'm a little scared, every time I get on a plane, but I'll just be danged if I'll let that keep me from flying when I need to. Otherwise I'd be declaring victory for the terrorists.
