View Full Version : McCain in trouble?

You've probably heard by now that the New York Times published an article saying that McCain had or almost had an affair eight years ago with a Washington lobbyist. Things like this I still say are private matters between him and his wife. But the much more serious matter is that he may have given special treatment to the clients of this lobbyist who is thirty years younger than he is.

The Times gave no reason why they published this story now. There was no new information, only the testimony of McCain's staffers from the 2000 campaign. The whole thing seems awfully weird to me.

Is this going to hurt McCain enough so that he cannot be the Republican nominee? Is this the miracle that Huckabee has been saying he was waiting for? Rush Limbo will no doubt be ecstatic about this news. But what will it mean for the campaign?

It would not seem so strange if it was reported by some right-wing nut publication. But the New York Times is not the kind of paper
that would buckle under to them.

Again, more stuff to deal with that is completely new.

The media builds them up, then takes them down. It's going to be a long summer.

Typical media making a story where nothing exists.

Journalism school ain't what it used to be.

I agree completely, Cap'n. But once the words are out there people will try to use them. And I think that it will mostly be people in McCain's own party. I'd be amazed to hear either Obama or Clinton even mention it because it is such obvious BS.

The really amazing and troubling thing is that this story appeared on the front page of the New York Times at the time when it did. I know the Rush Limbo crowd hates the New York Times, but they are far from being some sensationalist tabloid. (When I'm in New York I like the Post instead because it is a sensationalist tabloid.) That is going to be the real story, why publish the story, and why now? For one thing they only cited one actual source and that was a minor one. I think this is just more of the usual right-wing hateful politics and somehow the Times got involved in a way that we shall learn shortly.

Or maybe this is the miracle that Huckabee was waiting for.

The only folks who give a doodoo are the ones who wouldn't vote for him in the first place.

And we stopped our subscription to the NYT a couple of years ago. They ain't all the news that'a fit to print like they used to be. I subscribed to them for years and years.

I'm very disappointed in their editorial board and have been fr a long time.
