Regardless of how many of them kept quiet about it, voters in both parties are responding to the current candidates in ways that are surprising everybody and the reason for that is the Bush.
I've never seen anything like it. Obama got 43% of the white voters in Georgia, compared to about 25% here. Many Republicans are supporting Democratic candidates, partly because the Republican party can't seem to decide what the word "conservative" means. Openly anti-democracy-and-rule-of-law commentators on radio and tv are railing against McCain, but he's winning nearly every state reported so far largely because Huckabee is doing better than anybody thought. And I've heard one commentator say something about a McCain-Huckabee ticket in the fall. Imagine debating evolution in the general election for president of the United States.
And NONE of this would be happening except as a reaction to the true horror that is the Bush administration. I've seen for years decent Republican folks who didn't want to say much but who were obviously hurt and saddened by the crimes, lies, and overall lack of leadership that the Bush has saddled us with while he squandered what was left of our credibility around the world.
At least we can thank him for the large numbers of Americans, record numbers, who have this time decided to take a more active role in the democratic process.
And that's not even to mention the best part; that he cannot be re-elected.
Interesting times. Could it still be a curse?
