Hello everyone . . . first time viewer. :) I love the idea of the site. Whomever came up with the idea - - GREAT JOB!!
I would like to ask whomever is out there - - Lexingtoions only please.
I just moved here almost a year ago. I was so excited because I kept hearing how wonderful Lexington is & how friendly the people are. Since we are new here I thought I would take my two daughters to the parade with my husband and get a feel for the community. Well, as the parade began the people around me were very friendly and discovered one was a cop. (I'm thinking cool, I talk to him a little bit and introduce him to my daughters - - because they are at the age where they love people in uniforms.) So the parade is coming to an end and this sweet girl comes up and gives my daughters some lollipops and she proceeds to give cop a lollipop being friendly because he was standing next to my daughters and the cop threw the lollipop at her and said a few choice words. I was completely in shock of his behavior. Then, I later found out the young girl was handing out candy for a guy who is running for sheriff. The cop laughs and acts like that was a cool thing he did. My daughters have been asking me questions ever since. You know, as adults we need to rise above certain issues. I don't think this cop realized how many people were watching.

Without knowing who the cop was or that they were being watched by citizens what was more important to the cop was the other officers or "watchers" that were around....to see what his reaction was.....
There have been indications that officers that support the people that run against the sheriff will lose their jobs.....

What is going on with Sheriff Metts???!!! I was at breakfast this morning when the conversation turned to the Sheriff's election and some of the talk going around about Metts and his arrogance. Seems that one of my friends was at the Okra Strut parade and overheard Metts talking to a Harrison volunteer. Metts stopped her and asked her why she wasn't supporting a "real Man" and a "winner". Got news for you Metts, from what I have heard about Larry Harrison, he is the man!

I agree, Metts has lost it, I heard over the weekend that he is MAKING those Deputies pay him $100 a piece so that he can run his re-election campaign! I thought that was illegal? Just goes to prove that he not only doesn't care about the tax payers money but doesn't care about his Deputies as well! Metts has been in tooooo long!

This is unbelievable, Metts forcing his employees to contribute to his campaign! I talked to a friend that works at the Sheriff's Department and he says that it is being called a "union dues". I wish I could find the words that express how mad I am at Metts for this, his Deputies don't make near what he does and with times being as they are, forcing them to pay $100 for his campaign is taking food off of their families tables just to put him back in office!

If this is such a big deal with everybody why haven't I read about it in the newspaper? I think this has been blown way out of proportion. If this were true somebody would have confronted Sheriff Metts with it by now.

My husband works in Columbia and they were told by Deputies about the "dues". I know that the newspaper was called but I don't think anyone has step forward because they are afraid to lose their job. I think it's sad!

You confront Metts. Ask him about several of these issues that have been on this website and see for yourself exactly why Metts has not been approached.
Metts is not a very approachable man. Trust me Harrison is much more likely to answer your questions than to BLOW A FUSE!!!!!!
Just ask the people from Batesburg who was at the meeting where he blew his top, or the people in Irmo.
I think the paper should dig into it.....does anyone know a reporter that they can give the website to????? LET'S REALLY GET SOMETHING GOING.

If anybody wants to know why no one can ask Sheriff Metts about the dues is because of the very well known dance that he does when he gets mad. He thinks that because he is the Sheriff that whatever he says is law and should go without question. Ask the people of Batesburg-Leesville about his "approachableness". Trust me you'll get an earful. Sheriff Metts even bragged about having the Town Manager of Batesburg-Leesville fired. He really thinks he has that much power.
Harrison, who is running against Sheriff Metts, is very approachable. As a resource officer in a school you have to be. Lexington County needs a Sheriff who is willing to listen to concernced citizens and not belittle them when they might disagree with you.
