Is there any way the county arrest reports could be published online so I can put that dollar a week I spend on the herald to some good use?

I'm not completely sure about arrest reports, but after they've been charged it becomes public information if they are adults.

It doesn't all become public info. If you know someone at the herald, your arrest report doesn't get published locally, even if you're a pedophile. Did anyone hear of Craig Daniels' conviction for child porn? It never made the herald and he lives in Hamer.

I thought the bookings they printed were from the county jail. Wasn't that a federal deal? I think they primarily focus on what happens IN DILLON COUNTY and not cases that take place in other places. I don't know about this case, but I know an earlier arrest of the same person a few years ago was published in The Herald. The same person who got the bookings then, gets the bookings now. I know for a fact that the editor picks up and prints all the bookings she receives. In my opinion, she definitely would not take that particular name out just because I heard things were bitter between her and the other employee you refer to. There are other posts on this website (re: Thursday's editorial cartoon) which talks about how the editor is not liked by her fellow employees, and I think he is one of the main ones.

When I say that it's public information, I mean that the information is supposed to be available to anybody who wants to see it. If they can't be reasonable you just file a Freedom of Information request (FOI) and if they still won't show it to you then you got a serious case against them (the cops, the prosecutor, etc.).

Of course they don't have to show you files regarding an ongoing investigation, but the fact that a person has been charged is public record immediately.

Did you even call or e-mail to ask why it wasn't in there or did you just ASSUME the editor was crooked and left it out on purpose? Based on my experience, I bet the latter of the two. You know what they say about ASSUME and what it does to U and ME. I will say this she will look into your complaint if you contact her, but she will require you to give a real name and phone number or e-mail. She doesn't do anonymous. You shouldn't make accusations U227 if you haven't even contacted her. Tell us did u or did u ASSUME?

Dillon Heralded (a name I don't get), as far as I know no one is being forced to buy the newspaper so you can spend your dollar any way you want and go check the jail for the arrest reports.
Unregistered 227, I agree with Lady Grace. You obviously haven't called or you refused to give your identity. I wouldn't waste my time and energy either in that case.
Posting your complaints here won't do you any good, however. I have been told that she doesn't even look at this site.

"For the Record"...He lived IN DILLON COUNTY, committed his offenses IN DILLON COUNTY, was arrested IN DILLON COUNTY by a task force that contained officers who serve IN DILLON COUNTY.

I spoke to an officer today who told me that case was handled in federal court in Florence. He was not tried in a Dillon County court for this offense. He said he believes the editor picks up her court report from the Dillon County Clerk of Court's office so there would have been no record of it there. Again, I ask, has anyone asked her about it? I believe the answer is still probably not.

By what happens IN DILLON COUNTY. I meant the trying of the case, where she would have picked up her records from.

Yeah, other offenses like open container and writing bad checks that HAPPEN IN DILLON COUNTY by people who LIVE IN DILLON COUNTY and are ARRESTED IN DILLON COUNTY are much more newsworthy. Did I ever state that he was TRIED IN DILLON COUNTY or that the "FOR THE RECORD" listing lists people TRIED IN DILLON COUNTY?

You never said it was stated in "For The Record"...You just stated that as part of the your comment, like "For The Record, blah, blah, blah, blah..." Unregistered 227 was talking about his conviction, which happened in federal court in Florence, not in court in Dillon. Again, I ask, have you contacted the editor or anyone at the newspaper? Now, you'll have to give your name, she won't take your anonymous complaint or so it says here...

Whole thing sounds like a bunch of hooey to me.
I'll tell you who you all are...
Dillon Heralded...a complainer and a troublemaker just trying to start something new to post about and this must have seemed like a good target.
Swampfox...a moderator with sound posts
Unregistered 227...someone with an ax to grind, whether justified or not, who apparently didn't get his way on something
Unregistered 001...someone who thinks they are defending somebody and who thinks they know what somebody does, but who is making it worse by responding to these people
Lady Grace...someone who apparently doesn't know about the situation and probably who should have stayed out of it, but who asks a reasonable question
Herald Reader...yet another uninvolved party who would be better off to stay out of it
Neighborhood watch...probably Unreg. 227 or a friend with the same axe to grind and who is trying to pick a fight with Unreg. 001
Me...The Equalizer...don't care one way or the other so calling everybody out...Let the parties involved sort it out...This is a waste of time and good posting.

Well, who is it? That person asked the same question so I guess they don't care if their identity is revealed. And what things need to get better for them soon? Inquiring minds want to know...

Camelot

It certainly isn't Camelot down there...I heard from someone at one of the other Herald offices that the employee being referred to didn't even want her to be editor and campaigned against it...This is hearsay...However, if that is the case I wouldn't think she would do him any favors.

"I drove all the way from Dixie and I parked my pickup in the camel-lot,
My mind was set on larceny inside the ancient ruins, dry and hot,
But I got caught and when the judge said, "Son, how many fingers have you got?,
I said "Twelve", he looked at me and said "Well maybe so, and maybe not...."

Hardly a thread at all. Just a bunch of noise from people looking for gossip to spread and/or a cheap thrill.

BTW - it ain't dead yet. It's more like in the cat-and-cockroach stage.

Stay tuned for new developments.

Because of the nature of his offenses, his case was at the federal level. Feds may come in to a county and gain assistance from the local authorities but they are still the lead agency in such cases. I'm not sure, but I think they would make the decision to publish.

Not really funny in this particular case, cue...Some very hurtful things have been said about this person in terms of weight, personality, work relationships, etc. on other posts...

Also, joelle, I have heard that he has not been sentenced and I would agree, that when he is, they would make the decision to publish if provided the information.

I have no problem with someone criticizing her or anyone that puts themselves in a public position about their opinions on things; however, I do think it's wrong to criticize someone's appearance, personality etc. A lot of the personal criticism about her started because she called out some county councilmen about their cell phone usage in open meetings. They should have criticized her about the issue or about the editorial not criticize her personally. I don't know her or know whether or not she cares about what was said about her, but some people can't put aside the opinions of others so easily and do feel some concern about what others think.

I spent several wonderful years in the fourth grade. Most of the time my parents were there with me. They were always first picks for kickball and other games, I was usually after them.

Our teacher was Mrs. Johnson. She was so good to us, giving us candy and bringing her pet monkey to school.

We were in heaven.
