GREER, S.C. -- A benefit barbecue will be held June 20 to raise funds to help the 2006 Greer Rookie Officer of the Year who was injured last month in a motorcycle crash.


Greer police said that Officer David Sherbert was critically injured in the crash near Augusta, Ga., on April 28. Sherbert was in a coma at Augusta Medical University in Augusta for two weeks following the crash.


The barbecue, sponsored by Barnes Towing, will be held at 2110 N. Highway 14 in Greer from noon until 2 p.m

The cost of dinner is a $10 donation. Tickets for the barbecue can be purchased from Barnes Towing or from members of the Greer Police Department.


The Greer Police Department has also set up a fund to assist officers in critical incidents . Anyone wishing to assist can do so by mailing a donation to:
