I'm sad to read an article about Timken expansions in Oconee county because the article gives specific credit to the decision to close the Clinton plant as part of that overall "business plan".
I knew many of the Clinton plant leaders from growing up there in the 80's and 90's. I went to Clemson and then came back to apply for a job there in 1999. The interview was not at all what I expected. Maybe I was just being sentimental about "coming back home", but the interview was impersonal and formal, not at all friendly or welcoming, from the HR manager to the engineering and manufacturing leadership. What a disappointment. Later, an old schoolmate in the plant contacted my parents and warned them that I should not accept the job because they had no faith in the leadership. Thank God I heeded the warning, and am now doing well at the company that I interviewed with at the same time in Pickens County. this company has also had some harrowing battles, but the staff is united and keeps the BS down to a dull roar enough to focus and to promote growth.
It is a heartbreaking loss for the town, and I blame the leadership of the plant. They let you guys down. They were likely given bonuses for handling the "downsizing" on top of it. I don't know what your elected officials did for you, but obviously not enough. Good luck.
