Mummy for Sale
PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - You can buy almost anything through e-Bay -- but a mummy?
Officials are trying to track down the origins of a mummified human skeleton that a Michigan woman tried to sell on the Internet auction site.
The St. Clair County medical examiner's office has confiscated the mummified remains from the home of Lynn Sterling. Police say Sterling told them she got the remains from a friend who works in demolition and said he found them in a Detroit school he helped tear down nearly 30 years ago.
Police say Sterling likely won't face charges, though officials say the remains will be sent to an anthropologist for further examination.
The St. Clair County Medical Examiner describes the remains as an intact skeleton with mummified tissue. He says age, sex and race could not yet be determined, but says the remains appear to be
those of a child.

Airport High School. The tall, thin ghost of a man with his hands on his hips is seen in the halls here. He is George Pair, the school's first principal. The high school was built in 1958 and Pair died in 1962. He worked hard to get the school built and is said to protect the premises from harm. Most sightings have occurred in the "300s" corridor. Custodians, students, and visitors have reported encountering the stern ghost. (Cayce is on Hwy 2 in Lexington County, across the Congaree River from Columbia. The high school serves the Cayce-West Columbia area. Airport High School, Cayce, SC 29033. Phone: 803-822-5600.)

A Halloween Safety MESSAGE FROM
SHERIFF LEON LOTT
“Halloween can be exciting for children and adults. Halloween Parties, Trick or Treating, Fall Festivals and Haunted Houses are all enjoyable. However, I want to remind you to not let your guard down when it comes to safety. Halloween is one of my favorite times of year but it also raises my concern for your safety.
Trick or Treating for example. We all think about the obvious: check the candy before eating, carry a flashlight, wear reflective or bright colors, don’t accept rides from stranger, etc. Yes, these are correct and we should follow them, but there is more to overall safety than just these precautions.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://www.friendsofsc.com/forums/ /><o:p></o:p>
<FONT face=<font size=" /><o:p></o:p>
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3><FONT color=red><FONT color=red><o:p></o:p>
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3>First, you should call the Sheriff’s Department immediately if you see anything that seems out of the ordinary. Be a neighbor who walks with others in the neighborhood watching out for suspicious activity. Be a neighbor who turns on their outside lights on Halloween and every night of the year. Be a neighbor takes the lead in starting a crime watch and to get to know your neighbors.
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3><o:p></o:p>
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3><o:p></o:p>
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3>Second, even if you don’t have children trick or treating you can contribute to the safety of your neighborhood by being visible and an extra eyes and ears for law enforcement. You can be the citizen who talks with neighbors about Halloween safety. For example, teach children to stay on driveways and sidewalks. Set time limits on trick or treating and designate specific routes. Do not take your children to unfamiliar neighborhoods.
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3><o:p></o:p>
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3><o:p></o:p>
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3>Thirdly, I want to remind motorists to strive for the safe operation of their vehicle; WATCH THAT CHILD and SLOW DOWN. If you are driving children around a neighborhood have them exit and re-enter the vehicle only at the curbside. If you are the driver, refrain from wearing a mask or costume that could obscure your vision and make sure you put the car in park before people exit and enter the vehicle.
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3><o:p></o:p>
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3><o:p></o:p>
<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3>Finally, if you participate in Halloween activities or adult parties please designate a driver. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department will be out providing patrols for the communities, in an attempt to deter crime associated with Halloween. Also, we stand ready to meet with your community group or church to discuss in more detail Halloween and all safety issues. Please call the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Community Services Divisions at 576-3033 to have an officer come to your home, business or church to discuss the safety of our children and communities.”

I know it's a little early for the scary stuff, but this was a truely frighting article.
Nine oldsters booted out of nursing home - for trying to have an orgy!LONDON -- A group of nine love-hungry codgers were booted out of an old folks’ home – after they tried to have an orgy in the recreation room!
The unidentified oldsters, who ranged in age from 73 to 98, had apparently planned the unauthorized after-hours get-together for weeks, according to Melinda Helterford, spokesperson for the well-respected Edith Scarborough Nursing Home.
“They somehow got it in their heads to celebrate the 90th birthday of one of the women with a kind of sex party,” said Miss Helterford.
“This may sound harmless or amusing to some people, but Scarborough has a reputation to uphold. We cannot tolerate that kind of conduct.”
The nursing home made a concerted effort to keep the bizarre story out of the press and so details are difficult to come by.
But according to British papers, the let-it-all-hang-out party took place just after midnight on October 28. The three wrinkly romeos and six sagging seductresses gathered together in the rec room and stripped to the buff.
“They really set the scene,” a nursing home staffer who was not identified told a London tabloid. “They’d got their hands on some candles, which they lit, and even put on music to create a sexy mood.”
The nude geezer-gala went on for about 20 minutes before orderlies heard rumba music coming from the recreational room and went to investigate.
When they opened the doors, they were shocked to find the old-timers crowded together in their birthday suits, slathered with baby oil.
“They hadn’t got too far - I guess it was taking the gents a while to get started,” the staffer said.
“But they were all naked. Believe me, it was the scariest thing I’ve seen in my life.”

In my neighborhood this year we all chipped in and hired a real vampire. Should be lots of fun. He is bound by contract not to bite anybody. Won't get paid if he does. But he's only charging $25. Wait a minute, maybe this is some trick. He'll bite all of us, drink our blood, and he's only out $25.
I tell you, you have to watch these supernatural creatures every minute. And never turn your back on them. You know there's plenty of room to bite your neck from the back. No really big blood vessels there, but I guess if you make a preliminary bite there then you could move to the front.
I'm about ready to say to heck with the whole thing and hire that headless guy we had a few years ago, IF he's still available.

Halloween curfew set for sex offenders
Law enforcement officers to call, check up on them during holiday
Sex offenders will be getting visitors this Halloween, but they won’t be trick-or-treaters.
For the third year, registered sex offenders on probation or parole in South Carolina will be under curfew from 5 to 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
And to make sure they abide by the terms of their probation, state and local law enforcement officers will drop by and call the roughly 1,100 S.C. sex offenders.
The curfew means sex offenders must:
• Stay home.
• Turn off exterior lights.
• Not give out candy or congregate in the streets,
• Not throw parties.
In each of the past two years, nine sex offenders were arrested for violating the curfew — none in Richland, Lexington or Kershaw counties.
S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services officers will assist local law enforcement agencies by knocking on sex offenders’ doors to make sure they comply with the rule, spokesman Pete O’Boyle said.
Officers also will call offenders’ homes to confirm they are where they are supposed to be.
Last year, parole officers made 1,215 residence checks and 1,184 telephone calls. In addition to the nine arrests, O’Boyle said, officers imposed sanctions in 49 cases for violations.
Sex offenders in Charleston, Aiken and Chesterfield counties must attend events sponsored by the sheriff’s departments aimed at keeping them out of trouble on Halloween.
In other states, sex offenders are required to post signs that say “No Candy at This Residence” on Halloween outside their homes or risk violating the terms of their probation.

Yeah, I know it's gone, but some stories are just too good to let go by without comment. Here's one from Alaska.
ANCHORAGE - A Wasilla woman is under arrest, accused of robbing seven trick-or-treaters for their candy on Halloween.
Amber Martin, 20, is charged with six counts of robbery and seven counts of assault.

I didn't realize until just now where the by-line was on this story last year. Clairvoyance?

You know, I'm tired of this 'is Halloween on Saturday or Sunday?' crapola. Halloween is Oct 31 and if it falls on Sunday, have it on Sunday. Jeez Louise. Last time it fell on Sunday, we had a few foolish souls show up on the doorstep on Saturday and I educated them about what date Halloween was on.
Oct 31st is Halloween!!!!

Not that I'm complaining about that last part, mind you... but as crazy as our neighborhood is during Halloween we just cannot afford to pass out tons of candy two nights in a row. I mean, candy is expensive now a days... and we have to buy the good stuff because, you know, you never know when you're going to have leftovers and you have to eat it yourself.

Last year was about the last halloween for me. Trash in the yard and in the bushes was really bad. Plus, people coming from who knows where to get free candy. It is really sickening the manners some of these people display, especialy when they are getting something for free. It's almost like they feel entitled or somethi...

What about the ones who appear too old for trick-or-treating and those adults who carry huge trick-or-treat bags for their infants? Blows my mind! I mean, really!
BTW, some kids like a few school supplies. Have seen that stuff? Some of it is pretty cool!
We enjoy decorating, too! We have a tradition of carving pumpkins each year.
JDidGirl

Yeah, the older ones tickle me. And I can't stand the ones that aren't dressed up at all. We usually just give them candy to keep them honest so if they're planning on pulling a trick they'll do it to someone that wasn't as nice as we are.
RPWeed
10-26-2010, 04:04 PM
Where we used to live, the kids would come up to the door on Halloween in their street clothes...hey, kid, at least throw a sheet over your head. We didn't know if they wanted candy or wanted to rob us.
Now that we have sold out to suburbia, kids actually dress up. Cars are lined up and down the main road and it's a great, big madhouse. Parents bring their kids from the rural areas to trick or treat in our neighborhood. Two years ago, we went through 10 lbs of candy.
Of course, for JDG and me, half the fun is enjoying the fresh air with a cold one in hand.

Oh, I love that part of Halloween, but the rude and just plain nasty tricker treaters just about ruined the giving out candy part of it for me last year.
Then there was the year someone lost a cell phone and had kids in the shrubbery looking for it. Niiiiice.

Since everyone, enjoys the older trick-or-treaters, one Halloween I dared my husband to disguise himself (plain clothes; no costume just a mask) and pay a visit to our neighbor's house. Well, when the neighbor answered the door, saw an adult male holding a trick-or-treat bag (plastic shopping bag, I think it was), he mumbled, "Oh, one of you" and dropped one teeny-tiny piece of candy in his bag. My husband peered into the bag then lifted his head and said, "What? No beer?" (I was hiding in the dark w/ a camera justa giggling and giggling.) The neighbor exclaimed, "No! You're not getting one of those!" Well then I lost it, got busted and following much laughter, we were both invited in for that beer.

I didn't carve a pumpkin this year. Last year we did, but all it took was one rain and it pretty much collapsed in on itself. Well, I thought we fixed that problem by buying a plastic pumpkin that you just plug in. The wind hit it the other day and I guess the impact broke the light bulb. Man, we can't win for losing when it comes to Jack-O-Lanterns.

Three years ago Albert Paterson went to bed a normal happy man. Everything in his life was going great. He was in line for a promotion. He had a great fiance and had just received a perfect bill of health from his doctor. We know, from what doctors have pieced together, that he dreamed that night of his youth in New Jersey. Playing video games at his local arcade and scarfing down cheeseburgers at Burger King. It was a great night’s sleep. It was also the last night of restful sleep he would ever have. When Albert awoke he was greeted by the plasticized wooden visage of The Burger King – in his bed. So terrified was Albert that he had been unable to speak since the incident. Instead he just sits in his bed – stuck in a childlike trance – chewing on an imaginary burger and cackling madly. Occasionally he looks to his left and smiles nervously.
Does he still see the King?
No one knows.

Someone put up big signs at the entrance of our subdivision stating that it will be on Saturday. I'm not sure who makes the decisions in there (we don't have a HOA), but it would have been nice to be asked what we all thought about the matter. Guess we'll be passing out candy tomorrow then.

So... how was everyone's Halloween? We actually had 2 nights of it this year. I guess everyone was confused because Halloween fell on a Sunday (which just baffles me... hello, October 31 is Halloween... celebrate it on the day it falls on). Anyway, we had about 30 come through on Saturday, but WOW... Sunday night they came out in droves. It was non-stop for about 3 1/2 hours and even though we were only giving out a couple pieces of candy to each kid we still ran through 12+ pounds of it. And, shockingly enough... the majority of the kids (as well as the parents) were dressed in costumes.

Halloween turned out great this year! Lots of trick-or-treaters (5:50-9:00 PM) and most wore costumes, no infants, only a few older ones, and nearly all were polite and pleasant. Parents were extremely polite as well! We all shared many smiles, laughter and conversation. Enjoyed the evening!
