Also several years ago the klan decided they wanted to hold a rally and bonfire in a nearby ballfield in Aiken county and tried to hold while there were several hundred black people having a baseball game. I had a friend working for a loan collections company and said Horace King (now decease Grand Dragon of the South Carolina KKK) was one of their customers, he said when he went to collect that when he opened the front door, behind him on the wall was a life size picture of him in his Grand Dragon garb with Confederate Battle flags draped around the picture.

Yeah, but what was really funny about that whole Horace King thing was that end the end..his land was given to black people and now they have a church there! I think that its really funny! He spent his whole life hating them...and then in the end...he provides the real estate for them to put up a church (which has very good attendance) you just have to laugh at the irony of the situation. I hope he is turning in his grave! Thats what you get for acting like a morron!

Reminds me of the time I was over at the Food Lion across from Maurice's. He'd just put up numerous confederate flags in protest of the flag being taken of the dome. Some old man pointed them out to me and said, "God bless that man. God bless him." Hopefully, that's a dying breed.

Mr. Kreis created a special message on the opening page especially for anybody who might want to "screw with" his little gathering this weekend, apparently in response to the comments in the paper. His language is entirely different from what was in the paper, as someone noted in the comments.

He also calls Islamic terrorists "freedom fighters" and offers special membership to all military personnel. Explain that one.

We need to know about this, folks.

Well this guy looks the part and enjoys the attention. The threat level of such a small group who really seems to be outta step with the changes in thinking of most southern people, is low. I feel in theory the wish of freedom for all Americans is challenged more by the less obvious. Someone should send the guy a thank-you note cause we know who you are for your desire to be known. The bit about terrorist being freedom fighters is shared by more less obvious individuals which belies the greater danger to our shared thoughts of freedom.

Good point. Kreis is the one that we can see. How many others like him can we not see? Usually such people know very little real history. They make a hero out of Hitler mostly because he was such a criminal. I know that my students at DJJ did, and so did the thug crowd in the regular public schools. I guess its largely the same thinking that would lead people, including grown up adults, to offer their services to Al Qaeda.

I do believe the only thing Kreis has up his sleeve is a few tattoos. This isn't to say him and his friends shouldn't be watched but they are inviting trouble just to prove a point that the law forbids unlawful recourse for hate speech or thoughts. Anti-government types come in all flavors. Damn if all the nut jobs united we would be in a world of trouble. This is the reason we have to stay united as Americans, to keep each other informed as the scenery seems to be changing at a alarming rate and we sometimes may need reminding what we're fighting for.

Funny thing is - Kreis is on the FBI "watch" list however, they did not know he was in SC until he caused a disturbance at a local business in Lexington. He kicked the front door of the business shattering the glass because the manager would not do as he requested (the manager was black). When the police were called and reports were made the FBI was called. He told the manager to "google" his name and he would know that his threats were real.

A real piece of work this guy. Why SC, why not Mississippi.

As for the Nazi aspect, I just don't understand how people, if they know any history at all, can all be silent while our own countrymen display not only the flags but uniforms, speeches, etc from the people who killed so many of our heroic service people in a war that was not so long ago. I remember a few years ago seeing the leader of some Aryan outfit who actually had adopted using a fake German accent, speaking English! He was from Ohio or somewhere like that! Wore a Hitler mustache.

These people are terrorists in the same ways in which Al Qaeda and the Taliban are terrorists, and I think they should be regarded and treated as such. Same for the drug gangs. I'd like to put them all on an island and let them have at it.

I know that one, Cap'n. After the Jewish diaspora, in which they spread all over Europe, there was one profession that was pretty much handed to them, and that was banking. Complying with a biblical law, the church did not allow loaning money for profit (with interest). So the Jews became the bankers, and people often resent those to whom they owe money. That was how it started.

The same thing led to the downfall of the original Knights Templar, whether we believe all of the mystical or secretive stuff about them or not. In the early 1300s, King Phillipe of France owed the Templars a ton of money, so in order to escape payment, he managed to install his own hand-picked Pope and together they arranged to annihilate the Templars.

This is why they have guards at banks today.

Well, hatred of the racial or ethnic kind never has a rational basis. If it did, it would exist everywhere and would have existed throughout history, and I mean all the way back. So when it does persist over centuries like this anti-Semitism among Europeans and their descendents, it is more or less a random grasping at straws for some purpose, any purpose to attach to a prejudice in order to justify hatred which, in turn, mollifies feelings of inferiority.

So in short, racism is never really based on feelings of superiority, but in fact just the opposite. But try to get that idea across to the Maurices of the world.

Just look at LITTLE children playing together. There is never any sign that they even see a difference among them. But by the time they are ready to start to school, the parents that are going to teach hatred and racism have probably already taught it, and so it goes.

And look at countries like Cuba and Brazil. The races mix freely in every aspect of society. In other Latin American countries, though, like Venezuela and Colombia, there is a definite preference for lighter-skinned elected officials, even though the darker-skinned people are the huge majority. Strange.

In this country, the first Jews to arrive were pretty much invariably dirt poor, with the clothes on their backs, so to speak. But there has always been in the Jewish culture a great respect for learning, which continues today. So these immigrants saved their money for their children's educations above all, and within a generation or two there were an awful lot of Jewish professionals, businessmen, etc. The rest of that story is just the usual jealousy that many people have when others are successful.

It is not hard to see how this Kreis guy would have an awful lot of inferiority feelings to deal with. A semi-functional psychopath loser. Not even in a postion to be pitied by folks of good will. Going down in flames probably seems like his only option, even to him.

Lawyer Chains Himself To County Courthouse In Protest

CLEARFIELD, Pa. -- At a county fair, you can usually buy hot dogs, funnel cakes and maybe a T-shirt or stuffed animal. But at Pennsylvania's Clearfield County Fair, three vendors have some very different items on sale.

The vendors are hawking Nazi and Ku Klux Klan merchandise. A local lawyer became so angry when he found out about the controversial vendors that he chained himself to the county courthouse in protest.

Steve Jarrett was chained to the building for about four hours. He said that he's not passionate about many things but added that his relatives "died in ovens."

Jarrett was finally hospitalized for dehydration. He asked a judge to block the sale of the items, saying the county gets tax proceeds from it.

The county denied the allegation and said it would move to dismiss Jarrett's claim.

One of the vendors with Nazi flags said she's "proud to sell a part of history."

OLYMPIA, Washington (AP) - A fierce group of raccoons has killed 10 cats, attacked a small dog and bitten at least one pet owner who had to get rabies shots, residents of Olympia say.
Some have taken to carrying pepper spray to ward off the masked marauders and the woman who was bitten now carries an iron pipe when she goes outside at night.
"It's a new breed," said Tamara Keeton, who with Kari Hall started a raccoon watch after an emotional neighborhood meeting drew 40 people. "They're urban raccoons, and they're not afraid."
Tony Benjamins, whose family lost two cats, said he got a big dog - a German Shepherd-Rottweiler mix - to keep the raccoons away.
One goal of the patrol is to get residents to stop feeding raccoons and to keep pets and pet food indoors.
Lisann Rolle said she began carrying an iron pipe when she goes outside at night after being bitten by raccoons when she tried to pull three of them off her cat Lucy. She obtained rabies shots afterward as a precaution.
"I was watching her like a hawk, but she snuck out," Rolle said. "Then I heard this hideous sound - a coyote-type high pitch ... It was vicious. They were focused on ripping her apart."
The attacks have been especially shocking because raccoons came within five feet (1 1/2 meters) of cats without any problem in previous years, Benjamins said.
"We used to love the raccoons. They'd have their babies this time of year, and they were so cute. Even though we lived in the city, it was neat to have wildlife around," he said, "but this year, things changed. They went nuts."
In one case five raccoons tried to carry off a small dog, which managed to survive.
The attacks, all within a three-block area near the Garfield Nature Trail in Olympia, are highly unusual, said Sean O. Carrell, a problem wildlife coordinator with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, adding that trappers may be summoned from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to remove problem animals.
"I've never heard a report of 10 cats being killed. It's something were going to have to monitor," Carrell said.
Meanwhile, residents have hired Tom Brown, a nuisance wildlife control operator from Rochester, Washington, to set traps, but in six weeks he has caught only one raccoon. He and Carrell said raccoons teach their young - and each other - to avoid traps.
Brown said he had seen packs of raccoons this big but none so into killing. "They are in command up there," he said.
