Who the machine in Dillon wants, wins!! votes can be bought you know. and I can tell you first hand, most county employees do not like her because of the preferentail treatment she has received from your illustrious county administrator. she was hired making more money than a lot of employees who have been there for years, said she had CPA which she doesnt. rumor has it she has taken CPA exam several times, which by the way the taxpayer paid for, and didn't pass. Has had several raises (not chicken feed, either) while majority have not had even a cost of living raise for the last 5 years. The retirement can only be taken out if the person signing up the employees sends the paperwork for it to be withheld. And she did take the CPA exam but long before she came to work for Dillon Co. I don't know how a person can think that they can do a job when they have no experience in the Treasurer's job... Jamie is very well trained and is qualified for this very important job... How would you like it if those people working in the local banks just up and quit and you had people coming in to manage your personal money who didn't have a clue as to what to do in a banking position? You have to realize that Mrs Parham, your current Treasurer would not even consider retiring if she didn't KNOW that Jamie is capable of filling her shoes... Jamie is willing to work very hard for the citizens of Dillon County and knows the ropes... She was trained by the best.... First Jamie does not sign people up I was told when I called that when people are signed up they go to the council office and the paper work is handled there. Jamie only got what they sent her from there. Sorry to bust that bubble. The 80K was done by Joy call and ask like I did. The 11K was done and known about before direct deposit was sent. To get everyones out it had to be sent then reversed before the employee knew anything about it a check was cut and employee paid just perfect. Call public records are great. Before throwing stones be sure they don't bouce back.

To start with there are no qualifications needed to run for treas
only the sheriffs job is the only local office where requirements must be met.
next if there was checks written were they checked and approved by

jamie came to Dillon we never had a finance or county comptroller. and the county is in the same shape as it was or worser thats an extra 40k plus we the tax payers are coughing up every year.

I',m jumping into the middle of all this. As was said, Jamie got the ball rolling for Dillon County to be able to house Federal Prisoners. This in itself brought in about an extra 800K this past year. Mrs. Estes has served the citizens of Dillon County in the Treasurer's Office by being knowledgeable of the work, treating all people fairly and with respect, and most importantly, by just being HONEST. Now that is a trait that is very rare these days. Not to sound too ugly also, but the last time I checked, the Treasurer's Office phone number is 843-774-1417. Why don't you just call Jamie Calhoun Estes and ask her what she has done for Dillon County. I'm sure that her Resume would by far exceed her oponents. I am not certain of how to answer all of your questions. It seems to me that you are not pleased with politics in general in Dillon County. If you have a hair across your butt, why don't you run for something and try to change some things that you are unhappy about. It's not a matter of being politically correct so much as it is to do what is politically expedient. There may be men and women of principle who run for office, but if they are elected, they either will not stay that way or will come back home in what is supposed to be "disgrace" when what they really did was stick to their principles. I am the Oakland Trainer and I do not think the county will offer above my current salary. Just wanted to thank you so much for your apology. I accept it and am grateful that you see those who made the ultimate sacrifice as heros. If you ever get a chance to read the book, " Hero Mama", I think you would be very touched. I just finished reading the book and it certainly moved me in a most positive way. The book was written by Karen Spears Zacharias, the daughter of David Spears. David was killed in Nam. The book is mostly about her mother who held the family together and the difficulties that were faced by the whole family as a result of losing a husband and father. Karen was 9 years old at the time and had a younger sister and an older brother. If you like to read, I think you would enjoy " Hero Mama ". Again, thank you for your kind remarks.

Oh yeah, he was there. I liked him a lot. He and I were among the teachers most often physically attacked by students, which of course was then covered up by the administration.

But at least one of us had some pretty righteous industrial size woodworking tools. It's scary how often accidents happen with those things.

The students at LR knew that if they committed even felony assaults (with battery) on teachers of a certain genetic background, the administrators would cover it up and there would be no consequences unless we went to the Sheriff's office and filed a complaint ourselves. This would get you extra observations and bad evaluations in no time because the adminstrators themselves were supposed to report it to local law enforcement, among other places, and the School Crime Reporting Act makes it a serious crime not to make those reports. But if that law were enforced, a very large portion of the school administrators in SC (and other places) would be behind bars. It has been enforced twice that I know of, both times in Georgetown County, since it became a law way back in the nineties.

It is interesting how state laws are freely violated without consequence in the schools. Like the one about athletes having to maintain a C average. There are some schools that enforce that, but I have known a couple of principals who lost their jobs when things got real bad for them after they tried to enforce it. There were a lot of athletes at our school that didn't even have a D average.

I am just wondering why the man that is going around taking up political signs is not taking up all of them. I see all the Hayes and Estes signs are gone but all the Thompkins signs are still “Littering the State right of way” as he calls it. Looks like he would take them all up since he is “CLEANING UP”. I have read the numerous replies to this forum, (which I just found), and am baffled by some of the comments! Many people have said that, "oh well... he just started a business and put 5 kids through college. It all started in 1969." That's just it... it all started in 1969. It didn't end until five kids later. As a parent getting ready to put one kid through college, I can't imagine putting through five. From all articles I have read, he is just a small time business guy and used no financial aid that we have so grown to love. He must have done something right. I agree that we should put some "ole school" back into it. I want to get back to the basics. (By the way, who cares about the signs?) You have my vote Arthur Thompkins!
