I live in Lexington County on a widely traveled road. It is a very curvy road with no shoulder, nor any sidewalks. I have had 7 accidents happen in my front yard in the past few years. The posted speed limit is 45 mph. I would like to see it reduced to 35 mph and have it enforced. I have contacted the Sheriff's department, the County Council and Senator Nikki Setzler, and received responses from them all stating they don't see a problem. I have talked with the other residents of this road and they see a problem. I see a problem when I cannot let my children play in the front yard for fear of the traffic. I see a problem when the trees in my front yard are knocked down and my property is damaged. I was wondering if anybody had some suggestions as to where I can go from here to resolve this problem?

Maybe bringing the problem to the media may help --- contact WLTX @ www.wltx.com --- they have a special segment called 'On Your Side' that seems to help when no one else can.

Good Luck

The road I am talking about is Bethany Church Road. It is right off of Hwy 6 South before the 302/6 merge.

Concerned mom , Have you contacted the highway department about the lowering of the speed limit. They will have to come out and do a speed evaluation study along with a sight distance study to see if the roadway warrants a speed reduction or not. then they will make there recomendations and then if there are changes to be made they will only make them after all this is done. it will be a long tedious process to get this done.

the traffic division at the sheriffs dept can also do the speed evaluation. they have the equipment to do it. contact one of the supervisors for assistance.

I guess she was not to concerned since she has not contacted the Sheriffs office about her speed problem. No record of of anyone complaining about Bethany Church rd.

Maybe that's the whole problem. I have tried contacting the sheriff's department twice since the last reply. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY REPLYS FROM THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT!

Who did you talk to concerned mom??
Call and speak to a traffic supervisor or atleast leave a voice mail message, they have to call you back.
Also there is a highway patrol that can patrol the county roads too, not just a sherrifs dept. They are to enforce all traffic laws in this state, not just work car crashes..

Thank you JoelH. I did not get the name from the voice mail I talked to; however, I am going to try again and document what I have done. I will also try the highway department. Thank you all for your advice.

highway dept. is your best bet.
sheriff had a good-capable-well trained and well equiped traffic unit, for years but under the new staff, the unit has been dissolved.
another sign of troubled times and a waste of trained people in our law enforcement.

The first call you need to make is to Don Rumbaugh in the public works dept. Bethany Church is a state maintained road. They may help you or direct you to the Highway dept-engineering division or traffic control. He will be able to tell you what steps you need to take and where to go.
